Bhaal doesn't concern himself with his status in the clan. (His actual role is kept secret to all but a select few dragons.) Why should he care about something so mundane, so mortal? He claims to be a fallen god (asking him of what produces no response but an evil grin) from another realm. Whether or not that's actually true isn't known; something about him prevents people from pushing the issue. Bhaal is fond of chess and other strategy games, though he's long been without a worthy opponent.
