Although his origin is much of a mystery, Dumat and his mate, Urthemiel, joined
the Scrolls Clan's ranks early on. The other clan members give him a wide berth,
put off by his cold silence and stony expression. They equate him to a living
statue--something that is living and breathing but perhaps possessed by some
morbid magical force. The hatchlings are quick to fear him as they warily monitor
him from their perches in the shadows of the craggy peaks.

It was true: Dumat had never spoken a single word since his arrival. He is fierce
and intimidating, steering clear of any sort of socialization. Both he and Urthemiel
spend their days lounging on the sharp cliffs jutting out above the clan's main
entrance hall, their keen eyes critical of the dusty, parched landscape. They are wary
of any visitors, but also of the encroaching darkness.

Whenever Urthemiel speaks of the Shade, she casts Dumat strange, sidelong glances,
but never gives their meaning away. Some say it is because Dumat is tainted by the
evil scourging Sorneith, and they are not far off. Beneath Dumat's skin lurks a sort of
corruption that only the Shade can bring aboard. It's dark and sickly and makes his skin
seem as though it is nothing but oil shifting beneath a thin barrier. It does not control
him, however--Dumat is far too old, too strong, too indomitable for that.
