Alchemist
"Sometimes, the question is more satisfying than the answer."
Around Rynka, try not to ask hypotheticals, especially hypotheticals that involve any sort of science. After all, this Guardian is an alchemist and a Light dragon, a combination decidedly marked by an inherent desire to quest for answers to everything under the sun.
Straight from the egg, Rynka has asked questions about the world around her, desperate to explain the mysteries she grew up alongside. How does Pearlcatcher saliva form such cohesive gems? How do Janustraps move so quickly when a dragon turns their back? Why is the Hewn City cloaked in darkness and madness? This final question, Rynka has been unable to determine an answer to, but the others were a piece of cake. She completed her Pearlcatcher research within the Sunbeam Ruins, the breed's home. It was too easy to find willing volunteers to spit on various objects for testing once she told them how glorious their legacy would be in academia. Besides, a great many of her subjects were as eager to learn about the formation of their treasured pearls as Rynka was.
After spending long months deciphering the pearls, Rynka made her breakthrough and traveled away from her home to hunt Janustraps in the Tangled Wood. The were elusive, remaining true to their nature and only shifting when she turned her back, but she persevered, finally catching one in the act of swinging itself closer to her by means of its web of orange roots. The situation escalated rapidly, though, resulting in a fight. Rynka was of much larger size, but the Janustrap was nimble, wrapping its leafy tendrils around her neck and squeezing with all its might.
This struggle awakened a magic Rynka did not know she had. A surge of energy exploded from her body, glimmering with white light before dispersing as smoke. The Janustrap crashed to the ground, and when the haze cleared, only a lump of silver drippings remained in its place.
Since then, Rynka has not been able to duplicate this enormous feat of spontaneous transmutation. She has, however, found herself particularly skilled in alchemy, capable of brewing new compounds out of the simplest materials, like Baldwin at the Trading Post. Unlike the senile Pearlcatcher, however, her concoctions generally complete themselves with astounding speed, all while her cauldron glows a glittering silver.
Sometimes, Rynka yearns for the Sunbeam Ruins and its vast stores of knowledge, but the feeling is beginning to ebb. The fringes of Nyx Coven have become her home. She happily applies her magic both for the benefit of the witches and her own curiosity, and often shares her new discoveries with the volatile local tinkerer, Shades, whom she lives with. Together, she and Shades have developed quite the reputation for a blend of innovation and explosion that makes them critical, if unpredictable forces in defending the coven territory.
One day, perhaps, Rynka will travel beyond the land of indigo leaves and illuminated shrooms to answer the Hewn City's gentle call. Its darkness fascinates her to this day, and she is torn between her responsibilities and her insatiable thirst for answers. Sooner or later, one of the two must win out.
