Maple

Maple is Valeria and Julio's grandson through their daughter Aska, long since moved to the Sunbeam Ruins with her chosen mate. Through some twist of genetics, Maple hatched a guardian like his grandmother before her form was changed. Due to that, his parents decided it might be for the best that Maple go to stay with Clan Starslang since he would be able to relate better to Valeria rather than his coatl parents.

Unfortunately, it has been many seasons since Valeria was a guardian; Maple didn't find much common ground with his older family member. Despite efforts otherwise, he generally kept to himself, usually only to be found near his Lightweaver shrine in his rooms.

Maple arrived while key members of Natalia's Monarchs were out bartering ingredients for their potions. When the faes came back, something fit into place for Maple for the first time. He'd found his Charge: Emory. Who happened to be part of a group that wanted his grandmother dethroned. Well.

It took a few days before Maple could gather himself enough to approach Emory instead of just lurking in the distance. To his surprise, he found Emory and Natalia already waiting for him. It's a little difficult for guardians to be sneaky considering their size and Emory had been worried about why Valeria's grandson could possibly be keeping such a close eye on him.

Natalia recognized what an opportunity was at hand immediately. She encouraged the bond between the two dragons while also keeping it subtle enough for other clan members to not take notice. Maple, already not very close with his family, didn't find it much of a leap from estranged to actively working against them.

Of course, Valeria could never know Maple was with the Monarchs; Thus, Natalia provided a smokescreen in the form of the venomous toridae Maple has taken as a familiar. To anyone who asks, the croc is his Charge.
