The pressure on him had been building ever since his brothers had left the clan, one to serve the Plaguebringer and one to extend the lineage to wind. As the least favored of the remaining children by his parents, the pressure on him was much stronger than on his brother. In his family, both strength and genetics were highly valued, and his parents saw his brother as superior in both regards. His brother had a longer wingspan and denser muscles, as well being favored with the genes of a colored underbelly.
After some weeks of this increased pressure, he decided to leave. His clan lived in the Abiding Boneyard, which was uncharted. Charting a vast expanse of land unmarked other than similar and ubiquitous skeletons is a daunting task, and while it has been attempted, nothing has yet succeeded. He left without a map or supplies, planning to hunt along the way for food, as his parents looked down upon reliance on others as weakness.
He set out into the hot desert heading west, in the direction of the Starfall Isles. He thought that perhaps he could find a clan there to take him. He set off at a run, not so fast that he would run out of breath quickly, but fast enough that he thought he could make it within a month. He used the sun as his guide, and relied on his own sense of direction when the sun was not useful.
After about a week of continuous running, he heard some growls and distant screams, and the pounding of feet upon the ground. Soon after he started out, food had become hard to find and he was hungry, not to mention lost. He sped up rapidly in the direction of the noise, only to stop and wheel around as soon as he saw what it was. It was a pack of wild mirrors, the kind that attacks first in the hopes that something is food and doesn't bother asking the carcass questions.
It was too late. The mirrors had spotted him. He accelerated in an attempt to outrun them, but he was tired and the mirrors were built for the terrain. They caught up with him, and began a frenzied attack. Mirror packs as large as 50 have been recorded, and he was lucky this one was only six dragons strong. He fought them off, as they retreated as soon as they realized he was not the easy prey they were used to hunting, but they left him with some serious wounds.
With his wounds, he gave himself at most two weeks to get out of the desert before he died. He knew he wouldn't make it much longer than that, so he pushed on, rather than allowing himself to rest. He ran continuously, even through the night. When the sun rose in the morning, he could see that he had veered off course during the night.nHe quickly corrected himself, but he knew that if it continued he would become just another skeleton in the vast boneyard.
After two more days, he realized that he had overestimated himself. With his injuries, food had become even more difficult to catch than it was before, and he lowered his estimate to a week. His fastest pace had slowed to a trot, and even traveling through the nights, he wasn't sure if he was covering enough ground. His unceasing motion had not done anything to help his wounds, few of which had stopped bleeding. He pressed on, knowing that if he stopped he would likely not survive.
Another two days passed and he had only grown weaker. He could finally see the Wandering Contagion in the distance, where he knew many clans resided. He hoped he could reach them and find help before he was too far gone. He sped up once again, and continued at that pace throughout the entire day. By nightfall, the contagion seemed no closer than it had before.
He knew he was close, so he decided to continue through the night instead of resting, even though he was probably safe. The sun went down directly in front of him, reflecting off of his iridescent hide. He was heeding in the right direction. The sun dipped below the horizon, and the air slowly cooled and darkened. At last it was so dark he could not even see his destination, but he kept going. he was so close. In the darkness, he tripped over something - a root? a rib? - and fell hard to the ground. He lay there, without the energy to rise. He had been so close to his goal, and now he might never reach it. He was so tired. He could feel little pieces of bone and twig pressed against him uncomfortably, but he did not bother moving. He simply fell asleep.
When he awoke in the morning, the sun was already in the sky. He was alone for miles, nothing alive around him but a few Death Seekers he saw high above. He began to wonder if this was where, how, he would die. He could not summon the energy to move, much less continue on. Blood still trickled out of some of his wounds, his previously continuous motion not allowing them to heal. He mused that it was fortunate that they had not become infected, although that hardly seemed to matter now.
Vaguely in the distance he thought he could hear the pounding footsteps of dragons. He did consider the possibility of hallucination, but quickly brushed it off when they grew rapidly louder. He could only hope that it wasn't another pack of wild mirrors, because if it was, he was done for. After a time, he could identify the footsteps as four or five dragons, definitely enough to finish him off. Although, they didn't all sound like mirrors. At least one of them was much heavier, almost like a guardian.
As they approached, it became clear that they were not wild mirrors. Two of them certainly were mirrors, but they were accompanied by a large, shimmery purple guardian and a white and blue coatl. The light colored mirror was the first to spot him, and directed the others to approach him. They came closer, and realized immediately that he was in bad shape. The coatl and the other mirror, the red one, helped lift him up and draped him over the guardian's back after a quick discussion. They set off at a lope, him bouncing against the guardian's back with every stride into the Wandering Contagion. They seemed to be heading towards the most tangled and dark parts, and if the further in they were the more comfortable they were. Eventually, they reached a thick tangle that appeared impassible, until the light colored mirror leads them through a hidden entrance.
Once inside, he got a better look. There are dragons scattered around, including hatchlings. The two mirrors who brought him here run off somewhere while the guardian set him down and began to treat his wounds. He dozed off, still exhausted. He would remain in the cave for two more weeks, until all the clan members were satisfied that he wouldn't be a liability outside.
_________________________________________________________

He was lucky to be found when he was, yet sometimes he wonders if it is a double edged knife. The clan who found him has very little value of family, compassion, or empathy. They form relationships based on benefit and exchange, and the most emotional connection that typically happens is holding grudges and revenge. Not all the dragons in the clan are like this, of course, but this is the general shared mentality. He supposes it is understandable, even if he doesn't completely agree with it. Three of the dragons that once saved him are gone. Later on, he learns that they saved him because they thought he could be a useful addition to the clan. He likes some of them, but there are some he doesn't, and he isn't sure if he wants to stay permanently or eventually continue on. He has a while to think about it, though, because until he pays off the debt he incurred when they saved his life, he isn't free to go.

Glaurung is the leader of the hunt, delegated to head all the clan warriors. He was found by the clan near dead, and they took him in. He owes his life to them, and in a world of survival, this is the debt that can not be paid. He can not leave the clan until he is more burden than provider, when the clan will exile him. He is strong though, and that will likely not be for a long time.
