Biography
The Doomed Seeress |
Though young, Hecate shows a talent for magic, earning her the tutelage of Leader Iolite. Iolite sees great potential in Hecate as a mage. She has powerful magic abilities, acting as a seeress for the clan. However, her magic is raw, and most of her lessons with Iolite are about how to control and focus it. Through the visions she has, she has been able to communicate with the Arcanist himself, even though she is a shadow dragon. If she tries harder, she can communicate with the Shadowbinder as well. Contacting the deities requires a massive amount of magic, so she doesn't do it often. When she does, she suffers exhaustion and magic burnout and requires two days of bedrest at the very least. Eden and Iolite worry that one day she might overexert herself to the point of death. Against Iolite's wishes, Hecate constantly studies advanced spells that take a toll on her, not seeming to care about how draining her magic is. She's always pushing herself to be more powerful, more precise. A determined young dragon, she keeps pushing her body's limits to strengthen her mind. |
Enraged beyond reason by Vasilias' treachery, Hecate attacked him with forbidden magic. The magical forces of the powerful spell tore into her body and shattered her pearl, but she soundly defeated Vasilias and his followers, grievously injuring most and killing the weaker ones. But power comes with a price, one she knew all too well. Though her power was great, the power of the spell was greater, and it overwhelmed her body, destroying it. She became a being of pure magic, existing in the unseen world of the ethereal realm. Unable to return to the physical realm of Sornieth, she watches over Clan Tala from beyond. She doesn't regret her sacrifice to save her mentor and maternal figure, but she regrets injuring Iolite in a way that can never be fully healed. She fought and sacrificed to protect her clan from Vasilias and his followers. Here in the unseen realm, she fights to protect Sornieth from the Shade. |

Saving the Survivor

She watched as the Shade took physical form and escaped into the seen world. She did what she could to slow its progress from the ethereal realm, but it wasn't enough. The Shade Plague spread out through Sornieth, starting from the Plague lands and making its way into the territories of Shadow and Water. A young hatchling fleeing with her mother took her interest. Yes. She would do nicely. She would be one of the keys to destroying it. She watched over the two, guiding them from clan to clan towards the Talans' territory. The hatchling's mother getting injured was a mistake. They were both supposed to live. When the Plague came for them once more, her mother sent her away with the last of her strength. There was no set destination for the teleportation spell, so Hecate took her chance and added her power to the spell to bring the hatchling to the etheral realm. |
Weary from fighting the Shade, Hecate realized why it called so strongly to her, why her magic was always so taxing on her when she was alive. It was a part of her. Her mother was cursed, and the only way to remove that curse was to have heirs to pass the darkness to. Of the children her mother had, she was the only survivor. While she had inherited the entirety of her mother's magic in addition to her own, she also bore the weight of the curse. And even now, it was still trying to take her. Too occupied with battling the Shade, she failed to aid the clan during the Firestorm and many were lost. The voices of the departed filled the realm, terrified and confused. While Alunsina and Idan worked to Send the spirits of the lost from the physical realm, they were too overworked for the souls to complete the journey. Hecate worked to guide them from the ethereal realm to Beyond, where they belonged. There were many she recognized, and each familiar face hurt her to see. With a heavy heart she completed the ritual for each soul, until every single one of them had been laid to rest. They were good dragons. It was the least they deserved. |
She Who Fights Monsters

Who Guards the Guards
|
An Emperor. One of the only creatures that posed a threat to the living and spirits alike. Without her help, clan Tala could be completely destroyed. She wasn't going to let that happen. As dragons of all clans banded together to fight the Emperor's body, she worked to combat its corrupted spirit. As it slowly advanced on the Arcane lands, she blasted the wraith again and again with her magic, slowly weakening it bit by bit. Unexpectedly, one of the heads fell off after a direct hit, coalescing into a loose ball of black goo that rippled with internal movement. Hecate poured spell after spell of purifying magic into it, hoping that a complete loss of a head in the ethereal realm would translate into easing the battle in the physical world. With each spell, the ball compacted. As she cast her final enchantment to destroy it, it exploded, loaded with magic and energy. The blast threw her back, and when she regained her wits, she saw something else where it once was. A young Imperial. Like her, the Imperial's body was made of magic and glittered like stars in the void. She felt her own power mixed with the young Imperial's, and carried the sleeping hatchling far away from the corrupted Emperor. She hoped the dragons would be able to take care of themselves while she looked after the young one in her arms. Hecate felt no traces of the Shade tainting the magic of the hatchling as it did hers. And in feeling the warm light of this hatchling's magic, she finally felt hope for the survival of her clan and the defeat of the Emperor. |
With the threat of the Emperor finally dealt with, Hecate rested. For a time, all was well with the Talans prospering and the clan growing back to its previous size and glory. She and Aurora often visited the clan on their bonfire nights, happy to be among the members and listen to Alunsina's renditions of legends old and new. She is amused and touched when Alunsina tells the clan stories about her. Though the memories are often ugly, Alunsina makes it beautiful, and to see how her clan regards her so highly as to place her among dragons of legend warms her heart. During one of these nights, Hecate felt something stirring deep beneath the land, where the magic is wild and dangerous as the Shade. Something awakened that night, and it was something to take heed of. She sent Aurora to the Leaders, warning of them of what lurked beneath their feet. This magic was ancient, far older than anything Hecate had dealt with beyond the Shade. |

The Four Stars of Morning
| Powerful as Hecate was, she was still only one dragon. Even with Aurora by her side, her duties were becoming burdens as her reach grew. Try as they might, she and Aurora were no longer capable of protecting the realms on their own anymore. So Hecate tasked Aurora to find others capable of helping them protect the realms, so off she went and returned with three others. |
