Biography

The Warrior Maker
To Live is to Fight.

Patient, Protective, Stubborn

Clan Role
Defense Commander, Leader

The defacto leader of the clan, Arden oversees all of the clan's defenses and the training of new defenders and warriors to protect the clan from the myriad of threats lurking in the Labyrinth. Additionally, she hand trains all of the dragons recruited to undertake the noble and honored task of serving the Gladekeeper.

Arden never intended nor wanted to lead a clan. Proud to serve, Arden previously acted as aid to the clan’s original leader and oversaw only the clan’s defenses. She was an enforcer, a protector, and an advisor who led only in battle. But that time has passed. The weight of responsibility and leadership weighs heavily on Arden, made harder to bear by the loss of one she held dear, but this Guardian was born to bear burdens. She rules the clan with more consistency and fairness than the previous clan leader. To Arden, violence is a last resort. But if words fail, Arden is not above knocking a belligerent dragon into the dirt. Some dragons in the clan only respond to violence and need to be reminded of why Arden is their leader and why they should obey her.

The clan is the most important thing in Arden’s life. They are her Charge. Arden would die to protect each and every dragon in the clan, no matter how vexing they may be. Stern and hard but compassionate, Arden can and will make the hard choices to keep the clan safe and thriving. But the loss of the previous clan leader, the battle that led to the clan leaving the Scarred Wasteland, and the stumbling return to her homeland dog her steps. Arden smiles and laughs less than she once did and often slips into pensive silences, staring into the middle distance. In her mind, she failed the clan once before. She will not fail them again. No matter what may come, Arden will defend the clan and her dragons. Even if she must defend them from themselves.

Past

Daughter of the mighty warrior Rowan, of the Clan Within The Great Oak, who chose to follow in his footsteps along the warrior's path, Arden left her birth clan on her Search for her Charge. Her long and perilous journey took her far from the lush, verdant jungle she was born in and half way across the world…to the hostile, inhospitable domain of her Deity’s sister. Already an accomplished warrior when she arrived, Arden only proved herself further when she not only survived the wasteland, but managed to navigate her way through the Abiding Boneyard. Arden’s path took her into the heart of the Plaguebringer’s domain, through Rotrock Rim, to the very edge of the Wyrmwound itself. There, Arden found a female Mirror, half maddened by pain and disease.

This, Arden thought, was her Charge. She helped the Mirror survive, protected her, fed her, carried her when she was too weak to walk… The pair settled on the southern edge of the Scarred Wasteland and began a clan together. The Mirror took the name Mother and promised to cherish and care for the clan as though they were her children… But Mother’s devotion to the Plaguebringer, the sickness that turned her blood to poison, and the trauma she had suffered before meeting Arden made Mother a less than kind caregiver. Some Mothers hurt their children. Arden turned a blind eye to things within the clan that she felt in her heart were wrong. She believed in Mother, she believed that in time she could gentle the Mirror and help her become a better ruler. But Arden was not Mother’s only adviser. Others whispered poison in Mother’s ear and pushed her to be harder, crueler, and less sentimental. After all, survival of the fittest and the strength and will to survive is paramount to Plague dragons.

Mother and Arden began to drift apart. The tensions in the clan came to a head when Mother’s disease spread from her blood and into her brain. Mother, who had always believed that she could hear the Plaguebringer’s voice, decreed that the entire clan should cast themselves into the Wyrmwound to prove their devotion to her God. Only the strongest would survive and return and the clan would be better off for it. Arden could not, would not, allow this. She challenged Mother for the role of clan leader. The fight should have been easy, Guardian versus Mirror, but Mother’s illness made it impossible to spill her blood without risking poisoning yourself. Nor did Mother fight alone. The rest of the clan council fought with her. But Arden had allies of her own, Saera and Maladaptive, who had fought with her to defend the clan before. Together, they prevailed… But the cost was high for Arden. Poisoned, weakened, and heartsick from having to kill her friend and leader, it did not seem as though Arden would be clan leader for long.

The Guardian had always been fair and compassionate to the rest of the clan, going so far as to keep their secrets from Mother to protect them. Her sentimentality paid off. The clan, for the most part, rallied around Arden. Rather than remain in a hostile land that loved her not, Arden began the long journey back to the land of her birth. The clan came with her. Those who did not wish to come were forced. It was a hard choice, the first of many, but Arden refused to divide the clan. Together, the clan made it to the Viridian Labyrinth and found a new territory to call their own. Arden healed and regained her strength and began to learn what it means to be responsible for the lives of many.

Lair

Arden’s lair is at the heart of the clan’s territory, in the common area known as the Village. Within the trunk of the Heart Tree, Arden has dug out her lair, using Nature magics to keep the tree alive and healthy despite her renovations. Partway up the tree, a balcony extends out from a wide, wide opening. A ramp curls up the side of the tree to the balcony, so even injured dragons, weak fliers, and those who cannot fly can come and hold audience with Arden in her chambers. The antechamber is open to the balcony via a large arch which is edged with ivy vines that hang like curtains. A Stag Figurine and a Greystone Deer flank the arched, open entryway. Inside, the wood is polished smooth and the walls are rounded. Candles which smell of chlorophyll and fireflies kept inside glass and metal lanterns provide the light. A large, ornate lantern hangs from the center of the ceiling, made in the shape of an acorn. Bright fireflies move behind the amber glass. The acorn is a nod to Arden’s birth clan. Books and scrolls line shelves inset into the walls. Pelts and woven carpets are scattered across the floor. A large, round table made from a single piece of wood dominates the room, sitting at its center. Cushions surround the table.

A heavy wood and metal door on the back wall of the antechamber leads to Arden’s private lair. A shallow pit has been dug into the floor near the back of the room, under a large, round stained glass window. The stained glass window depicts the Behemoth. Thick pelts and plush pillows fill the shallow pit along with a very well loved Gladekeeper sackdoll; there are also a considerable amount of autumn leaves in the bed-pit. The round chamber bulges out into two small half circle spaces on either side of the room. The left half circle is devoted to the Gladekeeper. A Gladekeeper topiary cutting grows in a shallow clay dish, glazed green and brown, atop a low, long, wooden table. Green candles burn to either side of the topiary, far enough away to not threaten the plant. A small, round stained glass window showing a leaf floating on still water, is placed into the wall above the altar. Small offerings are frequently left on the altar before the topiary.

Across the room from the altar alcove, the opposite alcove is marked by shelves cut into the walls. The shelves hold books and trinkets. A large, overstuffed pillow-chair rests on the floor beneath a small, round stained glass window which shows a graceful, slender tree. Glazed clay pots wrapped in rope nets hang from the ceilings in clusters around the sides of the room. The pots hold dangling vines, some with flowers and some without. Identical glazed pots, sans the rope holders, sit on the floor under the pots. Taller plants and clusters of flowers grow in these pots. The room is illuminated by another acorn lantern hanging from the ceiling, as well as chlorophyll scented candles set in sconces carved into the walls.

Arden hoards green stones, stained glass, preserved leaves, and reminders of creatures she has defeated in battle. Bones and materials and weapons from the Beastclans decorate the walls.
