When she first came to the clan, Reverie didn't talk much, or do much. She just showed up one day outside of Starlight's den, sitting there. Spidery cracks run from a shattered hole in her gem, and she has little to no empathetic connection with anyone. Somewhere, at some time, a tiny piece had fallen out-like a chunk of her soul lost. All she said at first was that she's waiting, though for who or what, no one knows-Reverie herself can barely remember. Her legs shake, her claws are unsteady, and sometimes she has great difficulty keeping herself upright. Despite that, every so often she brings back plants and insects for the clan, and sometimes she can heard singing as the sun rises. She has also been caught a few times making things in Sade's cauldron, and is a skilled alchemist if one can manage to enlist her help on a day where her memory is clear. One of the few things she always seems to know is that seeing the hole in her gem is deeply upsetting for other skydancers, and she covers it at nearly all times. Reverie was drawn to the younger dragons of the clan, especially the ever curious Burst, who was only a few years old when she showed up. She taught him things about the world around him, though it's a toss up as to whether or not those things are useful knowledge, and he coaxed her out of her shell enough to speak more than one sentence a day. Now Reverie talks to almost everyone regularly, though she only makes sense about half the time. Her memory of alchemical recipes is flawed, and she had a terrible habit of calling Crusander by the wrong name, as if she reminds her of someone she used to know. After more than two years of living with the clan, Burst, Sade, and a few others who were curious about Reverie's life before the clan managed to put together a rusty timeline of how she came to be the way she is. She was running from something or someone, and in her blind panic to escape she tumbled head first off a cliff. Burst theorizes that her gem was smashed in the fall, and August agrees that her speech, motor, and memory issues must have come from hitting her head so hard-but they have more questions than answers. What was she running from? Why didn't she fly? And what was she waiting for that was so important it was the only thing she managed to hold on to? As time passed, Darling noticed that Reverie's gem was starting to deteriorate again. The cracks were spreading from the discomfiting hole in her gem, where pale yellow feathers could be seen. Fearing for her health, Sade toiled over her cauldron for more than a month while August and Roots kept her gem constantly bound under wraps, fearing what would happen if another piece of it fell out. August theorized that the increased amount of activity and stimulus she had been experiencing was the cause-being a full-time member of the clan, doing things every day, and talking so much was too much. Finally, Sade enchanted a runescroll that projected a tight film over the surface of her gem. The scroll hovers around her neck and keeps her gem intact. The addition of the alchemical spell allows Reverie to experience life to her heart's content without any worry of her gem falling apart. |
