The parents simply held their child, tears streamed down the mother's cheeks. The father held his head in shame, Boon's sickness now had the better of him. The clan's patriarch, Speculus looked down at the child, and took it in his grip.

"Boon, this sickness will soon overtake you. It's overtaking your children." The mirror took the white Coatl into another section of the den, away from the breeding chambers.

"...I... don't know if there's anything I can do anymore. We've seen all the doctors, given me all I can take, I..." Speculus put a hand on his clanbrother's shoulder.

"Your child. He will live. But he needs to be kept watch. His skin is very fragile. Peels off easily, you can practically see muscle. His wings are light, brittle, may not be even able to support flight..."

"Stop." Boon pushed the patriarch into an icy wall. "I will take care of him. Make sure he gets everything he needs. Just help me to keep him." Tears were falling from Boon's eyes, which froze upon the floor of the den. "Please, Speculus, I..." his voice hitched in his throat, and Speculus just shook his head.
