Biography

"The Pope's cousin, Count Pope-ula, a magical monster with pencils for arms"
Vulpes, the fighter
Vulpes is, a dragon who does many dragon type things. He enjoys dragon type accessories and is very fond of anything related to dragons. During his free time, this dragon likes to do whatever dragons do with other dragons. But sometimes he doesn't like to do whatever dragons do because dragons can be complex creatures with lots of complexity.

Once upon a time, there lived a lucky fox.

Now, if you were to tell him it was merely a matter of thinking and believing in his luck, the fox would protest and tell you otherwise. Why else would the wind change to let him sniff out the best goodies, or the sun glint off golden coins that were almost completely covered in soil? However, in the end, much of this remained merely stories he had made up for himself, and none of it was true.

The lucky fox spent much of his time wandering around, trying to prove (and surely to prove to himself, as well) that he was lucky, poking a twitching nose into nooks and crannies, keen eyes darting about, trying to stumble on a shred of luck. And it would be that much of this time rendered him empty handed, with not an ounce of luck to his name.

Still, it was one of the lucky fox’s explorations that led him to find something extraordinary. In a clearing, exhausted and dismayed, was a little white rabbit. Its hind leg had become snared in the twisting stems of some thorny bramble, and it was stuck fast.

What a treat! The lucky fox could not believe his eyes. This was perhaps the first time he had been truly lucky. A free meal was hard to come by, especially of rabbit, which was his favorite food. He edged forward.

“Wait! Stop!” The rabbit caught sight of him and put up its paws in panic. “I’m actually the prince of a rabbit kingdom! If you spare my life, I will grant you as much food and treasure as you can ever dream of!”

The lucky fox could not believe his ears. This was indeed his luckiest find. Not only did he find a free meal, but also had the chance to make much more out of it. The lucky fox could barely begin to imagine the amount of food he could ask for, the chests upon chests of precious gold and silver treasures…

“Alright. I will free you, but you have to keep your word.”

“I swear, upon my honor, I shall.”

It was but the work of a moment to untangle the rabbit’s soft paw from the offending thorns, and the rabbit was free. The lucky fox waited expectantly for the rabbit to tell him how to obtain his prize, but the rabbit merely shook its head.

“I will repay you in two days, my friend. I require the time to make preparations. My Kingdom is a day’s travel away, and after all, a prince must ensure that his debts are aptly repaid.” The rabbit bowed. The lucky fox was slightly disappointed, as he wanted his luck to pay off, but he supposed it was not such a bad exchange. In two days, he would be able to have anything he ever wanted.

They shook paws carefully, and the fox watched the rabbit go on his merry way.

Two sunrises and two sunsets passed without event, and the lucky fox was eager to return to the clearing where they had first met.

True to his word, the rabbit appeared after some time. However, instead of the procession of other rabbits and endless bounties that the lucky fox had dreamed of, the rabbit prince had come alone, out of breath, and with another plea instead.

“Please help me!” The rabbit gasped. Its eyes were watery, and it looked like it had run all the way here, on the verge of tears. “You’re the only one I know to turn to.”

Surprised, the lucky fox nodded. “What do you need help with?”

“My princess has been captured by the Bear Kingdom. It is two days away. The bear prince had captured her, and used her as blackmail!” The rabbit prince sobbed. “We are not a kingdom of fighters, but if we are unable to do what he says, she will be killed, and they will come for the rest of us next!”

The lucky fox felt sorry for the rabbit prince. The prince had gotten himself into a right predicament, and the lucky fox could not imagine the stress and frustration he felt at the time. With a quiet sigh, the lucky fox considered their options.

“Let me help you,” he said. After all, the universe had allowed him to meet the rabbit prince, and it might lead him to even luckier events in the future.

“You can?” the rabbit prince pleaded.

“He cannot!” At that moment, a new voice rang out from the undergrowth. Another fox strode out from the bushes.

The lucky fox recognised her at once. “Mom!”

“This is far too dangerous for you, son,” she hissed. “You are not going to fight any bear prince, or save any rabbit princess. What have you been doing while my back has been turned? We are going to move.”

The lucky fox felt his heart shatter. “Where?” he whispered.

His mother glared, and the lucky fox knew there would be no room for negotiation. With the voice mothers reserved for misbehaving children, she said, with every inch of finality she could muster,
