Info:
Pelel was once the best game hunter in the thunderhead savanna. From greattusks to quillrunners, she brought them down. Pele knew it wasn't the most moral of trades, but ampelope pelts fetch an amazing price, and dragons all over Sornieth would pay a small fortune for rhinehide armor. Pele could have afforded a life of luxury for herself with even a quarter of the treasure she made, but instead she choose to live a nomadic existence out on the savanna. Every dawn she would wake up to return to the hunt, and every sundown she would return to her campfire with a fresh kill. Occasionally the recolection that some of these creatures were sentient would enter her thoughts, but she would pay it no mind. That is, until a sparkling goblin ran between Pele and a skira she was pursuing. The goblin warned her that the Stormcatcher had been watching her, and he was angry that Pele had been butchering his creatures for sport. If she did not end her bloodshed, the goblin cautioned, the Stormcatcher would make her regret it. Pele scoffed at this and returned to her prowl, managing to take down a full grown magpie sphinx before the last light.

Later, Pele dragged the sphinx carcass back to her camp and drudged over to her tent, exhausted. No sooner had she stepped through the flap then a large thundercrack sounded overhead. A bolt shot down to ground. Pele was knocked from her feet. Her head spun. Everything was bright. All around her camp, flames spread outwards like a bruise. Pele scrambled off the ground, but the flames were already had her feet. As she sprung into the air, her wingbeats fanned the fire. The heat turned her feathers to ash, and she plummeted into the inferno.

Pele lay there for a long time, unmoving. The fire had left nothing but bare earth for miles, yet Pele was still breathing. Yet, she was not quite alive.
Her body was now a blackened, shriveled husk of what it once was. Her wings were dyed gold like the tongues of fire that had caught her. Her eyes shone like embers. She found that, despite the pain, she still had much of her old strength. Stranglely, her favorite hunting bow had also survived. One look over the charred savanna told her why.

In front of her, she saw a herd of dark, skeletal ampelope. Their horns were black and shiny and their hooves were made of steel. The second their red-eyed gaze met hers they took off in a thunderous gallop. Despite her weariness, despite her pain, Pele knew she could not stop pursuing them.

For years she chased the devil ampelope through the endless grass of the savanna at dusk, never slowing, never catching up. Until one evening she encountered a strange wildclaw with ram's horns who called Pele by name. For the first time since the fire, Pele felt that she could slow down. Alouetta introduced herself and offered Pele a long black coat. Pele accepted it, and the herd of ghostly ampelope vanished. Alouetta offered for Pele to join her clan, and she agreed.
