Kelp and Lunar look at eachother pensively, covering their eyes and gesturing for you to do as well as they open it, bright colours flash, blinding you momentarily even through your guard. You blink, lowering your paws. Volcan's story unfolds...

The dragon of fire was running. Always... running. He knew he couldn't get away. He knew that each clan he joined was just a slight roadblock in the Beast's way. He knew that each clan he took refuge in, every dragon that hid him... They were doomed. It was his fault. Perhaps he should give himself up. But anytime he tried, the dragons would protect them. And after all, the old tradeoff is a life for a life. The beast accepted it, and would be appeased. But only for a time. Then the chase would begin again, and he was perpetually running.

Moons before his birth, a prophecy was given to his family's clan. One with simple feathers, plain painted and streaked would be the chosen prey of an old evil, a creature that deserved sacrifice and reverence. He was only a couple days old when the orange stripes began to show on his feathers. His family knew the signs, and he was quickly abandoned. But the beast wanted prey, wanted a chase. Their caution was in vain.

When he found his way back to their camp weeks later, all that was left was a burning pile of leaves and feathers. But there was no time for sorrow. The beast's laughter echoed through the burnt and empty shell of the camp. And so the chase began, and the dragon soon forgot his name, his home, and even his parents. His only name was given by the Beast, chanted in the shadows, echoing through his mind. Perhaps taking the name was accepting his fate. Perhaps it was giving up. Perhaps that trapped him, finally.

The Beast is the only thing that rules over Volcan. Volcan knows nothing but the life of a runner. The Beast is pure. And this clan... This clan is now condemned as well.
