Lore

Her chestnut eyes glistened brighter than any gem she had ever uncovered when she struck the rich vein of a mineral deposit. She lived for this.

Covered in the crumbling dust of the Cairnstone Rest earth, Sienna stopped digging and sat back in awe. This was no ordinary mineral deposit. No, she knew every mineral and ore that could be found in Dragonhome. Her lair was lined with keepsakes from her excavations. She collected the precious stones with a fascination that rivaled the most dedicated of prospectors in the Earth flight. She had studied them. She knew each by name, by texture, by sight. She cataloged every finding in the scrolls she kept closely guarded and organized in her hidden, solitary cave.

She had heard of emerald but had never seen it for herself. The rich, vivid green hue of the exposed formation drew her like a moth to a flame. Snapping back to reality, she looked over her shoulder, making sure that no one had seen her unearth her prize. The bright afternoon sunlight cast its rays on the emerald, causing it to shine radiantly on the open grounds. It was too conspicuous. What if another prospector, or worse, one of the tomb robbers that frequented the ancient burial grounds, were to stumble upon her with her discovery? Could she fight them off? She doubted it. She was fierce, but much too small to defend herself against the massive snappers that dominated the territory. She would come back at night, when the sun wouldn't give her away. Begrudgingly burying the dazzling emerald, she took one last look before retiring to her lair for the day. She would be back.

The moon hid beneath the clouds so that only a faint glow remained to wash over the rocky grounds of the Cairnstone Rest. She could barely see, but it didn't matter. She knew exactly where she was heading. When she reached the pebbles she had left behind that afternoon as a marker, she began to dig feverishly until she found the emerald vein.

She pressed her palms onto the smooth emerald with her eyes closed, basking momentarily in her triumph. The gemstone felt cool and inviting to the touch. She had never felt so content as she had in that moment, until she heard something approaching her from behind.

She sensed the rocks shifting before she heard them. Whatever was coming toward her was heavy, and fast. It's movement was stealthy at first, careful to conceal itself in the dark. As she clutched the emerald she heard the pace change, it was charging right at her.

Sienna knew she should flee, whatever was coming toward her had nothing but ill intentions. It had surely followed her here, wanting the gemstones she had so carefully hidden for itself. She should run... run for her life! But, she couldn't. The emerald was hers!

She had never possessed an ounce of magic within her body, but as she gripped the emerald a sort of ethereal energy escaped her. She felt a subtle heat and the emerald gemstone melded into her. Just her claw tips at first, but then it rapidly encased her body. The emerald moved as a fluid over her, glistening in a broken pattern over her skin. She had become one with the gemstone and she felt a newfound power surging through her blood. She spun to face her opponent.
