______ Tivon lived in the wind. His body curling as he floated upon the soft, sweet gusts of spring. The saccharine scent of pollen would remind him of the leaving nests, now grown. He would laugh and set upon a firm branch, reminding the young dragons of their time as mere hatchlings. His curled tail and his boastful grin as he told them of stories too embarrassing to be made public, enjoying the reluctant laughter of the young creatures.

Tivon would loathe to be apart from Taika. He would nearly knot his own tail in his flurry to be with her, stumbling over his own sash as he beamed with pride and adoration. Her heart had drawn him into its orbit, and he was gratefully within her thoughts, as he gushed about the flights of the young dragons, praising their steady balance.

For all of his instruction, his ability to teach and evolve the young dragons, he could not understand them like Taika could. He would be at a loss to when a hatchling began to wail, taking many awkward guesses before Taika had corrected the issue in mere seconds, leaving Tivon to stifle his embarrassment, offering Taika a miserable thanks.

Tivon, by that history, could not quite understand why Taika had entrusted him with the new hatchlings. His body coiled and he sat himself by her side as she opened her mouth to yawn, well and truly exhausted. She had offered him a look as she finished her explanation, as he nodded.

“You will be fine.” She smiled. “It’s just babysitting.”

Tivon agreed. He knew babies. And he certainly knew how to sit. As he took to the breeze to hover around the nests, he had plodded up excitedly to the hatchlings, as if an eager pet seeking out a new toy, claws patting little heads as the hatchlings cooed and wriggled.

Tivon had pondered over the effectiveness of this so-called ‘babysitting’. It seemed irregular at best, but he was never one to question Taika’s parenting ability, knowing that she understood far more than he did. So it was with complete blind faith and lack of understanding that he saw it fit to curl up on half of the nest. He had rested his tail upon the hatchling’s head, as the hatchling stilled in bewildered silence, large eyes blinking as it nudged itself. Tivon had looked at the hatchling, equally confused, the pair staring at each other for what seemed like an endless time, before he had heard Taika yelp out a mortified shout, pulling Tivon off of the nest.

Taika had felt something amiss. She could not bring herself to sleep, knowing Tivon had agreed far too easily and with far too little questioning, as she scolded him. Contradictory to Tivon’s prior belief, babysitting had certainly not meant as it sounded.

Tivon was left both embarrassed and bewildered as Taika explained her justified telling off.

Why call it such a strange name in the first place?

Tivon may never understand children.
