Biography
Aeisis
Patriarch
rule never-ending 000000000000000000000000000000000 |
His eyes open, the light bright and blinding upon his green gaze. He instinctively clenches them shut again, groaning softly. It is... so bright. Too bright. Why is it so bright? His mind is foggy, the thoughts connecting slowly, and there's a heavy pounding in his skull. He recognizes that he is laying on his size, curled into a tight ball. He feels heavy, heavier than he has felt for a long time.
This isn't right. The thought comes from seemingly nowhere, but he knows it to be true. There is something wrong with this picture. He opens his eyes once more, this time withstanding the nearly painful light long enough to discern that he's in a cave. Why is it so bright within a cave? But it isn't bright, not really. It's just that the little bit of light that he sees is too much.
He slowly rolls to his feet, and very nearly collapses as soon as he does so. His legs tremble beneath his weight. He's too heavy, and too weak. His last memories were of light and air, not their weight and slowness. The fog of his mind has thinned slightly, but not enough. Confusion fills him.
"You waken, my love. I'm glad." He knows that voice. He turns towards it, sees a graceful skydancer that he doesn't recognize. But the voice, he knows the voice. "I know, I was shocked, too," she laughs, softly, and he melts.
"Astilla?" His voice is rough from lack of use, and he winces at the pain in the back of his throat. "What is this? What happened to you? Where are we?" The questions tumble out one after another, his confusion loosening his tongue.
"We're back, my love. Don't you remember?" The words sparked memories that had been buried. The journey up the seemingly never-ending steps and then the bright light, brighter than the sun, that had greeted them at the top. The tearful goodbyes, but the heartfelt thanks as well.
He licked his lips, then said, hesitantly, "We exalted?"
"We did." Astilla was gentle. He remembered her as... smaller. "But we aren't the same, my love. Not just me, but you as well. Look," she gestured towards a small spring that gurgled in the back of the cave. It was dark, but he could still see himself.
Looking back out of the water was a massive guardian, not the pearlcatcher he had been when going to meet the Gladekeeper. "I'm.. how I used to be?" Once, when he was born, he had been a guardian. Then he had changed. Why had the Gladekeeper given him his original form back? And why wasn't Astilla her own form? She had been a fae, now she was a skydancer. Just as beautiful as she had always been, though.
"I don't know, my love, but for some reason we are back." His mate joined him by the spring, looking down at herself with awe and joy. "I missed you, Aeisis." He felt the warmth of her as she pressed against him, lending her heat to him. He hummed softly. It was good to be back.
