Handful of Sprockets Copperplate Shell Copper Spring
"I will only make things for helping, not
hurting! None of my creations are meant for
war, and I will not let my work be corrupted."

Taciturn | Dexterous | Wary
Ratchet the mechanic; a solitary guardian who spends most of her time scavenging the Golem Workshop for spare parts, or helping to maintain the various machinery around the lair. The female prefers to work alone, save for the company of the coppercoil creeper that she reprogrammed to help search for salvage. Most of the scrap they find is sent back to the engineering lab for processing, but as Ratchet has a talent for mending broken automaton, she is allowed to keep any golems worth saving to tinker with. Successful fixes are then put to work around the den, and Ratchet is responsible for overseeing their performance.

Having a calm and analytical mind, Ratchet works methodically and to a high standard, and does not get flustered easily. Her preference for personal space is not overtly anti-social, but rather a lack of confidence stemming from an incident in her past. When she was younger, the guardian had build a robotic assistant for her previous clan's coliseum team to take with them on their adventures. It was a simple mech, designed to carry bags of loot and weapons for the fighters, and give basic instruction and advice. But the clan leader was greedy and foolish, and ordered the machine to be reprogrammed for combat - a warrior of metal that could slay twice as many enemies in half the time. Horrified, Ratchet refused, and went to dismantle her creation to ensure that it wouldn't be misused. Unfortunately, her resistance had been anticipated, and the automaton was already locked away.

Furious, the guardian followed the robotic warrior to the coliseum, where she challenged it. With only her coppercoil creeper as backup, the large and powerful dragon sprang, sharp teeth and claws ready to tear off metal limbs. The other two team members looked on in horror at the ferocious fight, until eventually Ratchet began to tire, and seeing an opening the automaton brought its heavy axe down on her body, and the guardian's blood stained the sandy Arena floor as she lay gasping from the deep wound in her thigh. Before the robot could deliver a final blow, one of the other fighters rammed his blade through its chestplate from behind, and it collapsed onto the ground, sparking and smoking.

Ratchet's clanmates fled, warning her not to come back to the lair as their leader would surely exile her for interfering. The guardian's wounds desperately needed stitching, but her coppercoil creeper was too damaged to go looking for help. They were discovered by a longneck mender who took pity on the incapacitated Ratchet and tended to her injuries with his magic. When she was strong enough to fly, the mage advised Ratchet to look for a clan in the Wiretangle Walk along the cliffs of the desert, one that his kind traded with and trusted.

The hot sun cracked Ratchet's raw skin, but she continued to fly slowly and painfully toward the eastern cliffs of the Shifting Expanse, where she was eventually spotted by The Lastsparks sentinels. After recovering from her ordeal, the guardian accepted a place in the clan as an engineer, though it was a long time before she trusted herself to work with automatons again.
