Biography

Tareenah - The Beauty

A vain fae, she has a tendency to stare too long into her collection of mirrors. She preens and spreads her wings. She blinks and turns her head. She changes her clothes, drips in jewels, and can constantly be seen grooming herself. If this quality did not bring out the worst in her, she would have been chased out long ago. But she takes this to extremes and chases down beautiful creatures in the forest. She brings in a constant supply of food. It is hard to turn down.

However, lately there seems to be a strange turn to this vanity. It is hard to be sure but Bitty swears that one day Taree was simply staring into one of her mirrors. She did not seem to be looking at herself, her red eyes unfocused and her grip limp on the mirror. It seemed like it should tumble to the cave floor and shatter there, spreading its glass across the rocks. But it hung there, Bitty said, pointed sort of at Taree as if someone was holding it for her but not looking at her.

At first, and Bitty tells this part of the story eagerly, she thought Taree was just being weird, trying out a magic spell to make herself prettier. But Bitty left, fought, ate a few travelers and came back at sun up to find Taree still in the same position. It was then she got a little worried and approached. She called out the fae's name but received no response. As she looked over Taree's shoulder into the mirror, she swears she saw not the cave, but some place of fire and then a sudden movement across the glass. A white eye blinked and then Taree turned to Bitty. She screeched at her to mind her own business. Bitty threw a dung beetle in Taree's fringe and flew away. She says Taree deserved it.

Bitty is a notorious gossip but this tale is far-fetched even for her. No one has asked Taree about the mirror and no one dares to look into it either. They all know which one it was. The one will the glowing purple rune on the back of it that she picked up out of abandoned cave on a nearby cliff.
