Anthea

Ever since she was small, Anthea has had an affinity for the night sky and she can remember nights in the windswept plains of her childhood spent looking up at the stars and she dreamed that one day she would be able to fly up and touch them. One day, Forfax, a follower of the Arcanist and dedicated star mapper and reader, stopped in with her clan to study the sky in the area. Anthea impressed him with her love for the night sky and her eagerness to learn more about it and he agreed to take her on as his apprentice. With her parents' reluctant blessing, she left the nest and traveled with Forfax until they settled he settled in Artemisia's clan as their resident astronomer and unofficial astrologer where Anthea continues to study diligently under him.

She takes pride in her work and is very serious about it and while Forfax appreciates her diligence, he sometimes has to remind her that all work and no play makes Anthea a very dull girl. He encouraged her to allow Lazu, a scout in the Layer Watch. Eventually she warmed up to him and they had quite the budding young romance until Artemisia ordered their first batch of hatchlings be exalted. Anthea couldn't do much to comfort Lazu in his grief, so she through herself even further into her work and has withdrawn quite a bit from everyone accept Forfax who she will sometimes still confide in. This has put a strain on her and Lazu's relationship. He sometimes tries to get her to come around again, but the two have grown apart considerably.

She doesn't know quite what to think of Eros yet. He has a bad tendency to condescend to her because of her young age and status as an apprentice, but he is an old friend of Forfax's so she puts up with him. Regardless of Eros's conceited ways, though, the three have formed something of their own little group within the clan due to their similar interest in the stars and Anthea takes a certain comfort from that.
