The aim of fighting is not to kill, but to defend. You are guarding not only yourself, but your comrades, your family, and your leaders. Do not kill. Detain, defend, and above all else, protect.

Info: Hemlock carries himself with pride, a trait expected from a coatl of his standing. Unlike the plant which his name is borne, Hemlock’s words are never dipped in poison. Hemlock prides himself on training fine young warriors, capable of protecting the clan royalty. Hemlock is capable of dealing a hard, sharp blow to his enemies, but fights with honour and valour, a value he enforces on his students. Out of battle Hemlock is quiet and calm, and loves all that comes to him for guidance. He is a strong teacher and wise in his actions and words, attracting many young ones to his training fields. For Hemlock, fighting is not just a way to survive, but a way to train one’s self for all inconveniences. Fighting is not only about attacking and killing, but defending and protecting.

Background:
Born from Nightshade and Soulful, two coatls from different lairs, he was raised from the start by his father to honour his clan, his breed and his flight. When he was sent, via convoy, to a lair in the middle of the Gladekeeper’s forest, he held those words close to his heart. He had trained with his father, during the afternoons, but never properly. There masses of untrained dragons awaited him. He had been chosen by an unknown dragon for his attitude and strength, and was told of his mission. He was to fight the beastclans that lingered on the edges of this new clan’s territory, and protect all that lay within. Hemlock was untrained, but he fought. Spurred on by two twins, he worked hard and won most of his battles, but his battlemates were always there to help him. Soon he was the best fighter, and the royalty took notice. Called into their venerable lair, he was awarded the position of Clan Trainer, a position he barely knew existed. It took a while for the older, battle-hardened veterans to accept his new role, but he commanded respect from every dragon, bar that of the royalty. To those dragons he had devoted his entire new life to. No matter how long or hard he fought and trained, he was aware, through hushed conversations around a fire at night, that the royalty were the ones who saved him and are the ones who he owes his life to. They were his true saviours. And so he fought, with their blessing on his wings, he fought and trained and developed a legion of his own. Some went off to fight for Gladekeeper, and some stayed behind to bolster his ranks. Soon he was the leader of a mighty guard.
Until one day. He had taken over the patrols to let a squire rest, and lead a party around the ever-expanding territory of their clan, when he heard a cry. The vines twisted, and a little coatl girl fell out, legs caught in the strangling vines. Behind her, Hemlock noticed a Serthis, slithering up behind her and rummaging in her potions bag. Why a Serthis was out this way, Hemlock didn’t care to think, as he sent his party off to take down the Serthis, and jumped over the girl. Baring his wings to hide her from view, he cut the vines down and gathered her in his arms. She was limp, and very, very light. Once the Serthis was dispatched, he commanded his party to patrol onwards, keeping an eye for dangers. He was taking this girl to the Royal healers.
Days passed, and soon the girl was older, and had healed fully, even if her leg was still weak from the stranglevine. With her leg, she wouldn’t be able to fight, and Hemlock didn’t want her. She was beautiful, and too precious to risk. Hemlock had fallen in love over this girl, called Sparrow by the healers, and he wasn’t going to lose his new charge. And so he fought, with his girl and his duty competing in his heart.
When Sparrow announced she was with a child, Hemlock was even prouder. He would strive his hardest to raise his child up to be as strong as their father, and to carry on the values he had drilled into his own warriors. When a girl was borne, Hemlock fell again in love. This child, named Cassandra, will make him proud. She will fight, like her father and her grandfather, and protect the royals with her life. She will be a strong, just guardian of the royal family, and he will fight for her, his beautiful mate, and his warriors, as they all strive to make their leaders proud.

Hemlock likes fish just as much as the next coatl, but prefers meat, a warrior’s food. He is deathly afraid of snakes, and treats them with the utmost suspicion, but refuses to let his trainees know, lest he be reduced to a fool in front of the clan. He loves his mate and child, but lies awake at night wondering if his daughter is going to be okay. She is developing into a fine warrior, but her battles will only become tougher. Hemlock still grieves for his father, who passed not too long ago, bringing honour to the Gladekeeper, but he wishes he too will have a death full of respect, just like his father. He hopes he made his father proud.
