Cyph, like all of her kind, cannot easily or at all understand standard draconic. She was born in her species native land the Emberglow hearth in a large and diverse clan, species wise. Her father as well, was not a coatl, and she was constantly frustrated with her inability to understand her clanmates. Though she tried and could mimic some basic phrases she knew she'd never be able to master speaking the whole language, so she threw herself wholeheartedly into the study of body language and written languages.

Draconic was easy, so after that she just continued acquiring new languages. She worked her way through 13, some of which were quite extinct, and some of which she did not even know the origin of. Impressed, a clanmate told her of the Archives, which she had visited once in her travels outside the clans territory. Intrigued Cyph made her way to Dragonhome, leaving home for only the second time in her life. The only things she brought from home were a few cyphers, a lava stone for warming her nest at night, and an Ember mouse that is constantly leaving scorch marks on her work.

In the library she impressed the lead scribe, a fae named Hale, with her knowledge of ancient languages, and excitedly told Matija about her, and explained she would make an excellent translator of some of their older and untranslated works. The guardian asked her to stay on as their official translator, and she happily accepted. She communicates with Hale, the lead scribe, strictly in notes, having no way of understanding the excitable fae. In the archives she is most often found in the history section.
