Beowulf knew he was...off.

He was a little insane, but that's alright. His mind was a mess and yet it was not. It was a perfectly serviceable mind, doing as he wished, and only descending into madness when he allowed it. To the local dragons, he allowed himself to appear as a senile old fool, who had visitors from a past life, who in reality were his students and servants. To strangers, he appeared as a sinister dark force in a strange place far from any god's influence, how did they get there? If nobody could realize what precisely he was, and were kept in a confusing darkness, they didn't know to look for the strike before it was too late and he reveled in it. No one ever looked to him as the danger, to him as the threat. Unless he wanted them to.

Beowulf kept a lab in his chambers, spending his days perfecting his glorious art of necromancy and educating a select few students in his studies. His goals remained clear, no matter how many little tasks he was set to. Someday, he would create an emperor. Someday, he would lord over an army of lichborne creations, and a wondrous coven of students, all bent to his will, all willing followers of his craft.
