Mischievous, attention-seeking, and easily influenced, Nox uses alchemy, an Arcane imitation of Shadow magic, and the power of the Shade in rather dangerous and mean-spirited tricks. Despite being born of Brightclaw, he's no long truly a part of the clan, having chosen to side with the Shadewitch Fairuz because of the power she wields. When Nox was hatched, he was fascinated by his sister Wisp's power of foresight, mostly due to the attention and special treatment it got her, and hoped for an Arcanist-given ability of his own. When he failed to develop an ability, Nox decided to take matters into his own claws, relying on practical jokes and acts of trickery to get the attention he so craved. Just when Brightclaw was on the verge of sending him either to another clan or the Arcanist, Fairuz stepped in and calmly informed the clan she had taken a liking to the young Spiral, and that he would stay with her and her people. Unwilling to cross her, the rest of the clan agreed to the witch's terms, and Nox now stays with her, learning to channel his energies and impulses into the Shadewitch's plans. Nox hates Apatilos. Simple as that, Nox detests the wind spirit and his tricks, to the point that Nur often has to keep Nox from going after the younger Spiral. Trickery was meant to be Nox's way of getting the attention he craved, and not only does Apatilos see less punishment for his tricks, his actually worked: Apatilos gained a mate when Thalia stepped in to help make his pranks less dangerous. Nox doesn't want to admit he's jealous; Fairuz is adamant that he needs to let go of his connections to the Brightclaw; but Nox can't help it. |
