Bruce is a grumpy, stubborn sort of dragon. The only reason he even agreed to leave his clan in Carrion Canyon was because his daughter, Leia, was so thrilled about the idea of going with her friend Link, and he wanted very much to keep an eye on her, as she is incredibly naive. Unlike his daughter, however, Bruce is no optimist. He tends to see the worst possible outcomes of a situation as nearly inevitable, and can find something unpleasant about any situation.

Of course, once he decides on a thing, he will cling to it very stubbornly. When he came to the clan, he was rather intrigued by Steam, with her morbid hobbies, abrasive manner, and tough-love mentality. As he had been looking for a place in the clan himself, he quickly insisted on becoming her apprentice. At first, she thought that the entire thing was stupid, and she gave him such a tongue lashing as he'd never gotten before. But it didn't deter him in the slightest, and that attitude was what convinced her that he would be one heck of a Dentist someday.

He complains a good deal, both about his apprenticeship and about Steam, but deep down, it brings him a good deal of satisfaction. No matter what else is wrong with this new clan he's found himself in, at least their teeth are magnificent, and that is partly his own doing. Sure, Steam still does most of the actual dental work in the clan. But still, he knows that she has a much easier time of it now that she has an apprentice to do a good deal of her grunt work for her.
