Wavecrest

Wavecrest is old, she is tired, she has fought long and hard for this clan she calls home. This clan that lays in waste around her feet. They had been culled, Cailleach had ordered it. It made sense, they were out of control bringing ruin upon their clan.

There will not be food for months.

Wavecrest knows this because she has lived it before.

There are angry packs roaming the plateau trying to find their wayward clan. There had been too many disappearances, just too many. Now they are trapped and Wavecrest knows they will run out of food. They hadn't had much stored, what with half the pack running a murder chamber in the old lair. hardly enough dragons had been out actually gathering food in the first place.

But Wavecrest is tired, and as she looks at the bodies of her clan, her clan! She knows what she is supposed to do, can see it in Cailleach's eyes. It's the only option left, they are starving.

But Wavecrest is old and so tired, and she cannot bring herself to do it.

So she drags herself to the old lair, torturing herself with the blood stained walls and what ifs. She steps in murky puddles of mysterious liquids far too often, and it just sends her deeper in.

Finally she stumbles across a body she doesn't recognize, relatively fresh. She's eaten worse in the plaguelands. Something in her makes her stop by this body, her jaws rip flesh from old bones and she consumes.

She becomes aware of someone else, as she wanders searching the old lair for corpses. They feel so familiar to her. She draws comfort from this presence, feels them urge her on when the desire to lay down and die shadows her. Like a sibling almost, someone who knows where you've come from, knows just what to say to keep you going.

She feels him always, she knows it's a him now. He urges her on always, keeping her going, keeping her alive. When her legs feel like they cannot hold her anymore, he is the one that keeps her up. When finally she has run herself back to the new lair she pauses at the musty curtain between old and new.

There it is.

One of the newer clan members, the child of a now distant clanmate. Wavecrest doesn't remember the name, but the face looks so familiar.

Wavecrest is hungry, so hungry. Everything cries in her not to do it, not one of us, never one of us. But then he shushes her, walks her carefully over to the corpse, tells her that she needs to survive. For the others, he says. For him.

Her jaws clamp around flesh, tears gather as stringy muscle and sparse fat slides down her throat. She can't, she can't, she can't, SHE CAN'T. But she has to. He murmurs in her ear, telling her how good she's doing, how she just has to survive, how he needs her.

In a part of her mind, Wavecrest screams that she doesn't want this, how she would stop if she could. But that part is small and unimportant now. She focuses instead on living, she has to live.

She has to.

For her brother Harry.

Wavecrest is an old mirror who's seen a lot over the years and she's so tired. Luckily Wavecrest has her brother harry to help her along. Her brother is very caring, especially to her, and Wavecrest is so glad he's here with her now. She remembers that there was a time before him, but she doesn't like thinking about it much. Either way, she will stay alive no matter what, she has to protect her brother Harry.

Harry is described as a funny guy, a good natured dry wit, paired with a love of puns. He's generally calm much like his sister, but doesn't suffer from the same burn out she does. He is considered the more optimistic of the pair. Some people think of Harry as a parasite, leaching all of his sisters energy and focus. Harry just likes to think of it as a sort of symbiosis, after all, without him Wavecrest wouldn't have survived.
