Cynder's egg was lost from her parents' nest before she was hatched. It found its way to a Shadow lair far from the beaten track. This lair was harsher than most; if it had a motto it might be, "Eat or be eaten." Rather than simply tricky, the dragons there were criminals - thieves, mostly, but some had something darker within them. As a hatchling she had to fend for herself until she was taken under the wing of one of the dragons - a clever but cruel member of the lair who cared nothing for Cynder as an individual but who figured that her youth and small size could provide an advantage in some cons he was running. Growing up completely under his claw, believing that this was how every dragon lived and not knowing any other way of life, Cynder became highly adept at all things criminal. She ran intricate cons; stole all manner of items and, if the situation called for it, caused harm to others. Sometimes, very significant harm. Though she didn't enjoy being cruel she had been taught how effective such methods could be, and she used them where she needed to. She always appeared calm and controlled - almost unnaturally so, and it inspired a cold fear in many - but could slip into an icy, quiet rage at the drop of a hat. Cynder was a force to be reckoned with, and her reputation was one to be feared.

This was her life for many years.

As she aged, her use to the dragon who had brought her up diminished, and needing space for new hatchlings to train to use in his cons he eventually cast her out. Despite her outward strength and fearsome demeanor, being cast out of the only home she had known was crushing - more than she could admit to herself, and almost more than she could bear. As she roamed the land she came across much kindness, but having only known cruelty she did not know how to deal with it. She tricked and hurt a great many souls, and when offered help always suspected it was a ruse. Slowly she came to realise that her upbringing had not been of the healthy kind, and that her criminal activities were far from normal. Slowly, she came to realise that until now, she had been one of the 'bad guys'. And Cynder was horrified. Her devastation and anger with herself only made her more aggressive towards others, who came to avoid her. She became bitter and sought caves to hide in to be alone.

It was in one such cave that she was found by Ravenstag. He visited that cave every day for months, standing still while she hurled abuse and told him to leave; that if he stayed or took her anywhere he would only be hurt by her; that she was bad and to be feared. He never spoke, but also never backed down. Time passed and she slowly realised that he wasn't there to hurt her or to punish her, but to give her a chance to be something else; someone else. Eventually, she traveled back with him to this lair. She is still settling in, but with each day she becomes a little bit more at home.

Cynder aggressively hates her past. She used to become violently upset anytime it was brought up, but as she is becoming accustomed to the fact that the majority of the dragons of this lair do not judge her for it, she is becoming less aggressive about it (though no less upset). She is not the only soul here with a dark past. Cynder is bold and headstrong, and probably the sassiest member of the lair besides Sanra. She is also a lot of fun, and one of the biggest pranksters in the lair. Her sleight-of-claw work is phenomenal, and a great source of entertainment (though these days she gives everything back. Well, almost everything). She has a drive to constantly prove herself, to make everyone know that she's not a bad soul. This can become grating for some, as her attempts to be kind can be somewhat aggressive in themselves, but it means a lot to the vast majority of the clan that she tries. She offers guidance to those who visit the lair with pasts they'd rather forget and in doing so has struck up a friendship with Aurumetsanguis and Protervus. She works in the gardens to keep her claws busy and her darkness at bay and is very protective of Morolacuna and Aerperla. She enjoys talking treasure with Spyro and Morunfluvine. She has grown quite close to Praestes as a friend, though she tends to bounce between enjoying his company and pushing him away.
