"It is only when you lose someone that you learn to truly appreciate them."

It had been a long time ago.

So long that Whitepeek couldn't even remember, shying away at the edge of his memory, unwilling to be remembered. That fateful day at the edge of the cliff, when he had lost her forever.

That day had been a cloudless sunny day, the sun's gentle rays dancing across her scales, the mottled deep blue reflecting off of them, similar to the ocean, as he would later think. They had been enjoying a quiet afternoon together, basking in the sunlight, enveloped in each other's presence, just as friends did.

He had loved her, and if only he had realized before that day.

As they stood together on the cliff, enjoying the view, there came a single loud, shrill call, similar to that of a bird. And then the sky darkened.

He had thought it was a thunderstorm, and she believed it was an eclipse. It came unannounced, after all. Except there had been a warning.

For as they had stood together, they had failed to realize the sudden quietness surrounding them, the encroaching terror happening before them, in the form of thousands of feathered wings.

As the shrill cry of the leader reached their ears, millions of feathered bodies dropped on them, talons ripping into their scales, hooked beaks digging into their bodies.

And they fell upon the two of them, rushing over them like a torrent of wings, the sounds of screams in the air, darkened blood dripping from their talons, staining their feathers. From the victims before them.

Screaming, Whitepeek remembered her shoving him away, spreading her wings to block additional Raptorik from advancing on him, while he cowered there, frightened and horrified, unable to do anything as she stood like a statue, protecting him.

And he hated himself for that. He couldn't bring himself to watch her get torn to shreds before his very eyes, and so he had shoved her, down, off the cliff. For she had wings, and could fly back up, or better yet, hide down there, safe from the flock.

That was his worse decision. Pisces never flew back up, dropping like a stone, for her feathered wings had long been shredded, the first target of the Raptorik. But they didn't stop, most of the flock speeding after her, determined to bring death.

As Whitepeek fended away the few remaining Raptorik, he had been aided by a tengu, a Corven, who later became his companion. His friend, his only companion, with their shared hatred for Raptorik bringing them together.

For the rest of his life, Whitepeek aimed to live a meager life with the tengu, wandering and exorcising the evil spirits from Sornieth, capturing them in his Soul-trapping pouch, never to roam the world again. For this was the only way he could think of, where he could repent and make Pisces happy, wherever she might be.

Whitepeek is a dragon not prone to share his feelings, quietly suffering by himself, although his tengu has learned to recognize it. The few he's shared his story with have criticized him, deeming him hypocritical for traveling with a Corven, a Talonok closely related to the Raptorik that had terrorized his lover.

Whitepeek believes it is his fault, as it partially is, and has learned to deal with it. He still misses her dearly, but he has learned to move on. He knows he can't remove all the Raptorik in Sornieth, and doesn't aim to. Whitepeek just acts as a wandering exorcist, ridding countless evil spirits from the world.

But through a lifetime's work of this, Whitepeek is gradually losing sense of himself. He can feel the evil spirits, trapped in the spirit pouch, calling out to him. He can practically feel them lurking around him, the touch of their vengeful spirits cold against his scales.

And so he hides under a mask, banishing the cold dread and fear deep into his soul, assuming a life as a cheerful exorcist, traveling to all the corners of Sornieth. His imprisoned spirits he passes a harsh judgement on, training them from within the pouch. The tamed ones he may trade, while the un-tamable are exorcised from Sornieth. He even has a tamed water spirit in his pouch, readily entering and exiting to aid his imprisoning of others.

Some may see him as a merchant, a spirit merchant, of sorts, and he gladly assumes the role. After all, introducing himself as an exorcist isn't the best of first impressions. As a spirit merchant, he barters for all sorts of things, although they are mostly coins or things he can sell. Whitepeek is not too strict with trades, letting the other gain a bit if they deem fitting.

Living a minimilistic life, Whitepeek still prefers to rest indoors, although he would still rest outside if needed. The coins he trades for is typically used for medicine or scrolls, which he brings with him to Gusu Lan, along with the leftover tamed spirits. His lifestyle has earned some hatred among others, namely Lan Zhan, but also the admiration of some, although they are usually young dragonets.

Mourning for the loss of Pisces, Whitepeek constantly thinks back to that day, of what else he could've done, that would've caused a different outcome. He knows he can't change it though, and so lives his life relatively content, as a spirit merchant.
