Jericho

Hatched under the glow of a full harvest moon, Jericho was slated from birth to be the keeper of the stars. Namer of countless constellations, she has let her eye turn from the secular world of her mother and father, preferring the company of her telescopes and gyres. While learned, Jericho is considered a fool by her more esteemed family members for her romantic nature and apparent carelessness. Sheatrima at first had a mind to train her in subterfuge, but when she mixed up the fuse lengths on her grandmother's homemade bombs, Sheatrima nearly lost her head. Afterwords, she sent her bumbling granddaughter right back to her scrolls.

Jericho believed herself happy, content with her work and family, and for many years that was so. Locked away in her observatory, the outside world seemed nothing but a disquiet dream, until the stars granted her a companion.

Castor was the lone survivor of a plague-ravaged tribe, who'd followed the constellations known by his kin to what he hoped would be sanctuary. What he got was dubious; Sheametra is heaven to some, hell to others. In this case, it was enough of one to keep him there, coiled beside Jericho, studying eternity.
