Biography
Deep Water Horizon
~ The Questioner ~
An oddly named Fae has long served as the Stacked Deck's primary instigator of debate and criticism. A founding member and familiar face, Deepwater Horizon is an intra-clan messenger, flitting purposefully through the communal lair's atrium and tunnelled corridors to deliver in-the-moment knowledge and instructions to its inhabitants. A voice composed of succinct, absolute statements would suit a dragon in such a role well. But Deepwater's approach to dispersing information is unusual.
It is rumoured, and easily believed, that Deepwater Horizon has never uttered a single sentence which did not end in an interrogative mark. Deepwater is perpetually revising his worldview by asking questions. Though he is regarded as kind, he is not the kind to chat about weather or exchange a cursory 'how are you', but incessantly interrupts and changes subjects with open-ended queries. When he's not looking a factual answer, Deepwater uses unanswerable questions as rhetoric to suit his needs. When Deepwater is messenging, he sacrifices perfect efficiency to allow a listener to come to the correct conclusions themselves, ensuring that the core of the message is not lost between words. It is a strange compromise, but if developing the deductive skills of his clanmates is of any value, then it has been a worthwhile one.
Deepwater Horizon joined the clan as a fledgeling, originally intended for exaltation abroad. Sandgroper intercepted his entourage of young dragons and singled him out for his agility and curiousity. In a debate already characteristic of Deepwater's later style, San soon learned not to simply answer, but to trade questions and rhetoric with Deepwater in an increasingly animated cycle of demonstrating how little the Fae really knew about his world. After hours of speech, Deepwater was tired, but still compelled to continue the discussion somehow. He asked a final question of the night- Can I join your clan?
The next day, the debate with the Stacked Deck continued, and has been doing so ever since.
Horizon and Thiozonide are the Stacked Deck's oldest and most loyal couple bar their progenitors, for though they are very different in status and attitude, they complement each other like lock and key. Horizon's infinite questions are met with Thio's infinitely confident answers, and his humble ways help balance her love of power. The two share perfectly opposite but equally unusual religious views- Thiozonide believes that the gods are divine, abstract beings far above the anthropomorphic characterisations of dragonkind, while Horizon considers them to be thinking, breathing individuals who have ascended far enough in power to give an illusion of infinity. This debate (for Horizon in his unassertive speech is the only dragon capable of engaging a fair argument with Thio's convictions) first ignited their union, and has still not burned its way to a conclusion.
