Biography
"I do not agree that it is my duty to create a lineage or line of succession. I have heard the argument that having a successor will protect our political standing and stabilize the clan, but I feel that doesn't acknowledge the reality of our situation. We are a border lair, almost as close to the edge of Crystalspine as we can be. If something bigger than us wants to wipe us out, having a few heirs will not stop it. Truth be told, I'd rather take steps to protect myself and my clan than have somebody to replace me if I die.
"So as to your "concerns" that not having an heir and marrying it off to your clan will somehow weaken both of us: Do you know why there is an infertility period after a dragon mates? Most would recall this period as a biological mechanism to help rear the young without needing to guard the nest. They would be right in diagnosing the benefits of the nesting time, but not the cause of this period.
"We are innately magical beings, our souls are inborn with divine-granted power. When we lay eggs, we are imbuing part of that power into the eggs. It recovers, but slowly. Unfortunately for you, I am always on this recovery period. While other clans are expending this life essence by multiplying like rabbits and offering their young to join some great divine army, I've been putting my energy to use elsewhere.
"For years I have been accumulating divine energy, slowing building up a magical artifact to ensure the protection of this clan. It's big enough that we're working on a flying island just to keep it mobile. If you want an alliance with us, I'd be happy to agree, but let's not bother border clans with politics, not while we work nonstop to defend you."
