Arecale

Arecale knows he deserves the best, and he'd like everyone else to know that, too. Anyone who speaks to him will be informed within the first five minutes that he grew up in an obscenely rich and influential Earth clan, and was the heir to most wealthy and prestigious dragons of the lot. He was in line to become the next clan leader - that is, before a rival clan, far more warlike than his flock of jewelry merchants, swooped upon their gem-encrusted lair and conquered it. Arecale was facing execution or imprisonment, but his manticore guardian helped him escape in time.

Through a series of embarrassing mishaps and failed attempts to persuade other clans to help him take his inheritance back, he ended up in Clan Lamprey's territory, starving and treasureless. Clan Lamprey won't go to war with the clan who conquered Arecale's home, either, but Tylis took pity on the young heir and permitted him to stay, as long as he would use his knowledge of the jewelry business to bolster Clan Lamprey's trade. After he proved himself to be a reliable (if temperamental) worker, he also took over the role of clan treasurer. Having been trained as the heir of two successful merchants, Arecale knows his way around finance like no one else in the clan.

Arecale was, in fact, adopted - he has very few memories of his birth clan or parents, but they certainly weren't aristocrats. Adopting hatchlings from other clans isn't an uncommon occurrence, but Arecale feels a great deal of embarrassment over his mysterious lineage and tries to keep it a secret.
