Raised among a travelling band of minstrels, Spry's early years were spent touring the flights and learning the joys of song, dance, and poetry. He took up the pan flute as soon as he was old enough to hold one, and has never been spotted without an instrument since.

Like so many other ambitious young talents before him, the sprightly piper became obsessed with the notion of striking out on his own to make a name for himself apart from the troupe. The goodbyes were tearful and drawn out, but in the end there was nothing that would stop him from chasing his dreams across the whole of Sornieth. His wandering performances took him far and wide, from the Southern Icefield to the Viridian Labrinth and every stop in between.

His days of solitary travel came to an abrupt halt one spring, when he followed along with a merchant caravan toward his next destination. One of the hired guards, a formidable Guardian by the name of Surana, claimed he was her long awaited charge and could not be persuaded otherwise. Even when he parted ways with the caravan, she quit her job to follow. Her company was not always appreciated, but in their travels the two eventually grew close. She protected him on the road and in the air, and his performances earned them the treasure to stay fed and sheltered.
