Simei
Captain of the Guard
(Description of Role)

Adventure comes with no guarantees or promises. Risk and reward are conjoined twins—and that’s why my favorite piece of advice needs translation but no disclaimers: Fortes fortuna juvat. ‘Fortune favors the brave,’ the ancient Roman dramatist Terrence declared. In other words, there are many good reasons not to toss your life up in the air and see how it lands. Just don’t let fear be one of them.”
― Mary South, The Cure for Anything Is Salt Water: How I Threw My Life Overboard and Found Happiness at Sea

Curiosity Point is built directly into the cliffside some distance south of the Beacon, carved carefully and reinforced so it won’t collapse into the sea or flood. Observation decks, some personal dens, a common eating area, and even the great balcony where the clan conducts its business over a great map of Sornieth all look out over the ocean.

The architectural style of the Point is rather haphazard, inspired by the clan’s very well traveled population. About the only consistent thing running through the entire, large, lair is that at least some part of it is always under construction or renovation. The dragons of the clan all seek out new things, enjoy new experiences, and so walls are repainted, halls restructured, new carvings or statues moved in or redone, on a very regular basis.

A main landing area is one of the highest points along the cliff, and it feeds into a tunnel back into the earth, where much of the body of the lair lies, storage areas, nesting grounds, kitchens, armoury, along with various halls full of curiosities that the clan has returned with. The hallways themselves are often cluttered and crowded, while the lair is a fascinating wonder it is a place consistently in flux as people move in and out and go about their daily lives.

Curiosity Point is at its heart a home for explorers and adventurers, to showcase their travels, to provide them a place to work and study before leaving off again. At the heart of the lair is a vast chamber, far away from the cliff face, filled with books, journals, and maps.

This Room of Mysteries hosts a massive stained glass skylight for a roof. The glass isn’t in any particular pattern or shape, but it makes for spectacular viewing when the stars come out, and the bright points of the stars are coloured over. There’s a whole series of stone desks around the edges of the room, all stocked with writing materials for those there to record or write about their adventures. Beneath the skylight itself, there’s a slowly turning globe, along with a collection of a few curiosities and souvenirs that is ever changing. The shelves in this room are carved stone, sturdy, heavy, and durable enough to handle a bunch of rowdy explorer dragons.

Curiosity Point is home to many strange dens to house the many dragons that make up the clan, and many of the dragons are often in and out of the lair at regular intervals, so most of them crowd around a platform that serves as the main staging area for expeditions. Though the two closest dens happen to be the pair shared by the siblings Kaieth and Jrethi, most other members of the clan give their dens a wide berth, and haven’t bothered expanding in that direction.

Kaieth’s den is poised open mouthed directly to leap into the hall where the staging area is laid out, so he can guard it and accost anyone seeking to get by it to his sister’s den. Meanwhile Jrethi’s was simply built so close to make it easier to dash out on her many adventures, or tag along on anybody else’s. Needless to say, thanks to both of them, some of their clan members are considering building weapons onto the balconies -- just in case they return with more trouble than they can handle following them.
