Biography
Yú Jìn || 餘燼
The Burning Ember
The Burning Ember
No one, not even Yú Jìn himself, knows quite where the little Fae came from. Certainly, his egg was laid within the Shifting Expanse -the brilliant turquoise of his eyes is testament enough- but beyond that, it is a mystery.
One of his earliest memories is his first meeting with Xuán Yì when her parents' clan stopped for some time near his little home. He was intrigued, having never really seen such a large group of dragons before, and she? Well. She took him home as her new familiar. Though he could certainly complain about being treated like a familiar, and did so with great gusto, he could not object to the idea of living with other dragons. What a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the history of the world and their kind!
His second great love is scrolls. Perhaps a dragon such as he would have been better suited among the ranks of the Arcanist's devotees, but that was not to be. He eagerly reads every scrap of parchment, every engraving, every hint of writing that he can. As such, he speaks in a very formal and proper manner, with something of an accent that he feels matches. (It does. It is also, in the words of his mate, "Feckin' pretentious.")
Because of his upbringing and despite his posh affectations, Yú Jìn is much more vocally expressive than most Fae, and tends to not use his crests as much to emote. Whenever he finds something of great interest or has something he finds interesting to speak of, he gets very excited and can sometimes trip over his words. However, he tries to rein this in when speaking to superiors, and can be deferential to a fault when even so little as referring to someone much higher in social standing than he. And don't even ask him to talk about one of the deities, because it will take him forever to get to just their name, much less anything of interest. Unless, that is, you are interested in hearing every title and epithet ever accorded to a deity that he has heard of or read.
His interest in the past leads to a slight hoarding problem, as he will go out scavenging and return with anything that he finds so much as remotely interesting. Bones? Yes. Tattered parchments? Of course! Broken tablets? As good as gold! So long as this doesn't leak into the common areas, Xuán Yì could care less, though daily Zhù Lì tries to get rid of the excess.
This hoarding tendency would also extend to hatchlings if Xuán Yì would let him and they had the room for it! He loves children and wants nothing more than to give every hatchling a safe and loving home. The jury is out on whether or not this is because of his lonely life prior to joining Xuán Yì's old clan. As it is, he's responsible for much of the new blood being brought into their clan, even their own hatchlings. Until their hatch day, he tended to the eggs frequently, and could often be found resting atop them, crooning quietly at the life developing inside.
He misses the children that were sent to homes in other clans, but is happy that they are living somewhere they can be happiest. After all, the welfare of his young is of the utmost importance to him. Though he does find it troubling that Léi Yì is so eager to be a part of Xuán Yì's experiments on genetic expression...
In contrast to his mate's insistence on logic and observable knowledge, he is a bit more spiritual. He believes greatly in fate and the idea that the world is not wholly explainable, nor comprehensible to beings of their level, and is utterly astounded that their deities -living personifications of the great forces of the world! the creators!- would ever deign to descend and speak to them, much less employ them. If he were ever to meet one of the gods or goddesses in person, he might very well be rendered speechless.
