Quiet | Reminiscent | Gentle | Absent-minded | Clean
The storm raged behind her, rain pelting down in relentless sheets that rolled off of her dark feathers and made her body glint in the light of the confused atmosphere. The sky didn’t know what to do; dark clouds rolled from the east, while the west was a broken shaft of sunlight. The pink glow tore through the thick blanket like sharp, eager claws. The dragon collapsed in the grove, laying her head down in the soft sheet of flowers. They caressed her crystal hide and tucked around her body. With a soft grunt, she pulled her wings over and made herself a wet, quiet cavern. Finally, a moment’s peace. The first storm of the season was raging in Sornieth’s Arcane skies. An unfortunate time of exile, dragged from her throne by a clan of strange, new faces… but she could no longer delay the inevitable, and the push from the top only aided her aching bones toward the pull of her quest. A disorienting concept to the fallen queen; her? An oracle? It put her creeping dread to rest, but brought a new and foreign feeling to her body, one that nibbled and gnawed at the back of her skull. It came over her that day like a frantic, impossible itch that she absolutely had to rid herself of. It practically dragged her here. The sigh that escaped her aching lungs may have been of greif, or perhaps of content. This island in the sky was much nicer than she had imagined. The storm-soaked flowers that brushed sweetly against her neck as she lay in the grove didn’t make a bad welcoming committee, after all. She focused her dark blue eyes on a small purple pansy, with a longer stem that still stood up, despite the soft, purple petals that were pulled by heavy droplets. She empathized with the little flower, and figured it not much different than herself. They both enjoyed a break from the monsoon that heiled from above. The sentiment was pushed aside sharply as two voices rang out in the distance, struggling to be heard over the storm. “This storm is hitting us hard, I thought we were ready!” “I knew this would happen…” A sharp gust of wind cut them off, and as it faded, she focused all her energy on listening to the distant voice.
“…It is midsummer.”
