Biography

And I fight... But it feels like wasting time... Feels... like wasting time...

"You are my curse. My beloved, loathsome curse..."

xxxxxWhen the stars align and you gaze to the skies, remember your story.
xxxxxRemember the days you spent all alone, staring at nothing but your own reflection.
xxxxxRemember the silence that was found all around you.
xxxxxBut most of all, when you think far, far back, remember the voices that were once with you.

The sound of a single drop as it splatters onto the ground is the only one there. In the midst of nothing, a single, pure-white dragon coated in crimson red sits, holding tightly onto the last thing he could ever rightfully call his, to the last thing that held the feelings of joy, of happiness that he had once felt before.

His pearl.

There, alone, he stares at the pearl, watching as within it a cloudy, purple murk swirls as if alive. If only he had known, if only he had known that this darkness within him would one day come out...

If only he had known.

xxxxxDo you remember the smile you used to share?
xxxxxThe laughter, the joy, and the tears?

Another drop splatters to the ground, echoing in the nothingness around the dragon, wondering if there was any more reason to remain, wondering if there was any point in trying anymore.

He could remember the laughter, could remember their smiles so clearly as though it was just the other day. He could remember the light that shone so brightly in their eyes, and could remember when he had never once questioned if this joy was one that would last.

xxxxxYou can remember the look that your mother once held as she gazed upon you.
xxxxxAs she cradled you within her safe and warm arms.
xxxxxAs she whispered in your ear a phrase you could never forget.

Ah, how he could remember the phrase his mother used to tell him, as she held him within her warm arms, cooing softly and brushing his mane back.

"You are my curse. My beloved, loathsome curse..."

xxxxxYour body, which was once pristine as freshly-fallen snow, now tainted in a bright crimson red.
xxxxxYour eyes, once clear as the blue skies that spread all above us, now tainted in black.
xxxxxYou never wanted it to be this way, you didn't want it to happen, but it was never within your grasp.
xxxxxIt was out of your control.

He could remember when things began to change. He could remember so clearly, even if he didn't want to. It began not with a word, but the lack of. One by one, they had simply begun to leave him be, as if they finally realized what it was that made him so different than the rest.

They had gone their own ways, went as though he was not there, before them, talked only to one another and left him all alone.

Those days of joy, laughter, happiness... Were they nothing but lies? Nothing but falsities laced with smiles to make him feel wanted, loved? As hard has he tried, those moments of laughter would not leave. He had believed them to be real, believed them to be true... But were they not so?

xxxxxAt first, you didn't know why everyone began to leave you by your lonesome.
xxxxxAnd when they started, the shadows finally began to show themselves within your eyes.
xxxxxIt was then that you realized as you gazed at their skins, vivid and bright, full of colors and markings.
xxxxxColors and markings that you did not have.

That was what she had meant. What his mother meant as she whispered into his ears those words he'll never forget.

His body, one that would never be pristine if marked by patterns, was one she wanted to keep pure. And oh, how she wished to keep it so, even if in her ears she heard the sounds of those around him, laughing behind him, flocking together, forgetting he was there...

She continued to obsess, even if she heard the sound of sobs coming from his den.

xxxxxYou had shared laughter, you had shared stories.
xxxxxBut within you was the shadow that now paints your eyes.
xxxxxThe shadow you thought you had once held back, kept away.
xxxxxThe shadow you thought had finally been destroyed by this beautiful light before you.
xxxxxThe shadow you wrongfully thought had been gone.

He had fled from that place, hoping to one day find a place he could call home, find a place where he could finally feel as though he could belong. And he thought he had found it, he thought he had found the place where he could share laughter, joy, a place where it could remain true...

And it was, for a while. For a while he had those he could call friends, those he could love with all of his heart.

He could feel the darkness flee from his pearl, and oh, how he hoped to finally remain, remain forever with these he loved so much.

But in the end, it was not.

It was not the paradise he had searched for, it was not the family he had sought.

Within him, doubts arose.

What if they were like the others? What if they really didn't care for him as much as he cared for them? He had noticed the love was not as strong as it once was, and he wanted to fix it. He would not flee this time, he would solve the problems that were arising...

But he hadn't done it right.

xxxxxRemember how foolish you were?
xxxxxRemember your anger as it escaped?
xxxxxRemember wounding those you loved and wounding yourself all the more?
xxxxxRemember the sound of silence as you fled?

And again, his eyes grew darker, the shadow within his pearl swirled more violently.

He had loved them. He had cared for them. He had wanted to remain there forever.

They had helped him, they had held him close and told him they loved him as much in return...

But as with his original home, was it all just a lie?

xxxxxThe darkness filled your soul, it tainted your eyes.
xxxxxIt clouded your heart and your mind.

xxxxxUntil you chased all you had once loved away.

The crimson that paints his hide, it had never been from any other, but of himself.

From the anger that burst forward, from the anger that broke his heart into pieces, that drove him to chase all he loved away and only to find himself alone, he drove himself into a short madness.

He would rush straight into stones, harming his own scales to rid himself of that which the others had judged so harshly at the start, but soon he found himself unwilling, unable to find the strength to do so any longer.

He was scared of being alone, but he was also afraid of dying. And besides... it had not only been by fault of his markless body... It had not.

And so here he sits, by his lonesome, crying as he gazes at his reflection. Crying as he gazes at the crimson-red lumps that now cover his entire body...

Will he ever find a place to call home? Will he ever find peace, ever find solace within his own soul?

Ever forgive himself for chasing away all who had seemingly loved him...?

"Dahlia," a voice echoes not too far from him.

"You look like a Dahlia..."

He looks up to the nothingness that surrounds him, and sees the face of a maize-colored dragon before him.

"White like freshly-fallen snow, red like the fire that burns in our soul," he says, leaning his head down to look at the small pearlcatcher, smiling. "And those tears that adorn the flower like dew on a cool spring morning..." He smiles sadly. "But it is winter now, my crimson-dyed flower. Let us wipe away those tears before they freeze upon your features. And I know just the place where your heart can burn brightly once more," he says. "Though ironically," he laughs, "it happens to be in the coldest place in all Sornieth... Will you accompany me to Clan Istaeoria, sweet Dahlia?"
