A Stogwen descendent, Bitumen is a surprisingly adept at holding the leadership title of his clan, though even that is not without it's difficulties. He is one of the eldest members within Clan Seafall and was also one of the first original members o the clan when it was led by a scruffy old Guardian with about as much common sense as a drinking match between an Old World Rabbit and an Emperor. Granted he wasn't more than a ball of coatl fluff at the time, but he still loves to boast about it whenever others question his decisions. Bitumen is quite a mentally strong dragon, capable of soothing most hearts with quick thinking and a silver tongue. He is looked upon many within the clan's ranks as a fearless drake who will bring a reign of terror down on anyone who dares to threaten the clan and in reality, that's pretty close to the truth. If he was a Guardian, the clan would no doubt be this guy's charge. Bitumen is practically obsessed with the safety of his clan, even if it meant him standing between a hoard of armed and well trained assassins to do so. Because of this, many speculate that it wasn't the illness that Thanatos accidentally brought with him that took the life of his longtime mate Liberty; rather that Bitumen himself poisoned her when she disagreed with the idea of increasing the combat forces within the clan and would have openly disagreed with such a thing at a round table meeting. Naturally these suspicions are considered rubbish from many members who spent their lives looking up to the Patriarch, however those familiar with the natural mental deficiencies and gifts that come with being of Stogwen blood are left to wonder... Bitumen is really popular personality wise as well since he's definitely not the hardcore, stotic and overall business oriented kind of guy despite the fact that he would sit around in his den and deal with endless mountains of paperwork if it benefited the clan (fortunately he has Palace for that). Rather, he enjoys spending hours at a time in Eponine's Bistro, drinking and joking with his clanmates like any ordinary clan member. He is closest to Hiruma and Zireus whom he commonly spends most of his free time with. Both dragons being of a close age range are able to relate to him quite well and he often confide in them when he can't to anyone else. Still, there are even times when they cannot pacify his troubled thoughts which is where his beautiful Pearlcatcher mate comes in. Out of all the choices in his leadership, the one most questioned is the addition of Astarte to the mix. Bitumen knows well of her past as an assassin and has been told many times that she could be a spy from a neighboring clan. Really everyone knows that she was the one who planted the idea of increasing the clan's military forces into his head! Even odder was the fact he took her as the clans Matriarch not long after Liberty passed on and the first changes towards a militaristic style began. Truly Bitumen does love his mate, but he is also interested in her for her mind. The way she thinks is far different than his own and yet he can clearly see the benefits for his clan that her way of thinking could bring. He trusts her, though trust may be too strong of a word. He believes in what she can do and that is all that matters to him. Well... no. He also thinks she's really hot so... there's that. |
