As the clan made its plans to stay for a while in the Scarred Wasteland, Cloud detached himself from the group and informed Veran that he would scout the area for suitable training grounds. As he was in charge of training young dragons to fight before they joined the guard, he wanted to set out as soon as the clan found a location for a temporary camp.
Heading west, the Ridgeback decided to explore closer to the Rim.

This territory would be perfect for training the younger dragons in survival tactic. After all, Plague was all about survival. But he needed somewhere tamer to train his apprentices. A place that didn't involve a sand pit that almost swallowed him, nor a place that reeked of putrid flesh with no corpses to fill the air with such a foul stench.
On the tip of the horizon, Cloud could see the edge of the Rotrock Rim. Beyond that rim would be a lake of pestilence. Maybe he could find something a little closer to temporary home. As he scanned the landscape, he spotted a circle of sand that seemed safe. Remembering the giant sand trap from before, Cloud look better caution in landing. The sand didn't collapse inward this time, so that was a better sign. But then, something bumped against the bottom of his foot.
Cloud jumped back, ready to fight. But instead, a head popped up out of the sand...
... It was a Graveyard Guardian, buried in the sand. It seemed to have been sleeping, and was now looking at Cloud. It made a low whining sound, as if it was complaining that Cloud had woken it up and it was not happy about it.

Bemused, Cloud stared at the Graveyard Guardian. For such a majestic creature, it sure was lazy. Well, lazy or not, it was just a bear in the end. Casting one last glance around himself and deciding that the spot would do as a training grounds, Cloud set off to rejoin the clan. Strangely enough, the Graveyard Guardian followed him. He let the creature pad along beside him, figuring that surely someone in the clan would know how to take care of it.
