Sorin is employed by the Alchemists' Guild to go into dangerous areas, whack beasts over the head, grab whatever he can off their corpses, and bring it back so the less combat-inclined can use the valuable bits in projects and experiments. Well, where else did you think their supplies came from? The market? Why bother paying retail, when they can employ their own gladiators?
