Biography

Scorch
Fire mage / Refugee

"What was that? ....Nevermind. Probably nothing... probably...."

'Scorch' is an awfully plain and forgettable name for a Fire dragon- and that's exactly why she picked it.

Raised in the Ashfall Waste like any young fire mage would hope to be, Scorch's life was off to a comfortable start. Her birth clan was strong and healthy, and her parents, though neither could exactly be called 'law abiding,' loved each other.

As an aspiring mage and a daughter of thieves, Scorch grew towards adolescence with her eyes and ears always searching for weaknesses, opportunities, and new information. But as time went on she began to notice things that unsettled her. Whispers half heard... notes stealthily exchanged at dusk when the proper mail had long since been dealt with... the charred remains of blood stained cloths, hidden in out of the way places as though someone had tried to burn them up to dispose of them without anyone noticing.

It was enough to set her nerves on edge. She kept her fears that something sinister was going on to herself, not knowing who to trust and hoping that a good explanation would present itself if she waited long enough. She tried to ignore the occasional nightmares full of shadows, whispers, dark laughter... and, strange enough, the gritty sound of something heavy being dragged along the ground, always paired with the soft jingle of bells.

She had almost convinced herself that she was letting her imagination make much out of nothing when, one day, the same quiet jingle caught her ear while she was wide awake. The tiny gold bells were sewn to the clothing of a Mirror dragon that her clan seemed happy to welcome into their territory, and the sight of him struck her heart cold.

She wasn't going to wait around for him to notice her or to find out what the rest of her nightmares meant. Scorch threw together a quick story about travelling to the Starfall Isles to study magic and fled. Instead of heading West to the Isles she quickly turned North to seek a home in the Viridian Labrynth- the furthest point from both where she had come from and where she was supposed to be. The Wild Orchard clan was willing to let her stop by as a traveler, and after a short time Scorch decided that this strong, warrior-guarded clan hidden in the dense Wilds and populated with many other Fae that she could blend in with was her best option for a new home.

Only the two clan leaders, Duskpatrol and Bloodshard, know the true story behind why Scorch fled her birth clan- it didn't seem right to put them at risk from whatever might one day come looking for her without at least warning them. But both leaders agreed to let her stay, so if they want to risk their family and clan's safety on her account, that's their choice to make and Scorch isn't going to talk them out of it.

She's found no shortage of new friends here, despite the fact that most of her relationships started out on a foundation of her own self preservation instinct. She spends a good deal of time practically glued to the clan's medic, Salica, trying to soak up his knowledge on poisons and antidoes, and she often keeps the clan's Seer company in hopes that any risk to her own safety or life would trigger a warning first. Andrus is a bit of a bother to her, constantly hungry to learn about her homeland as the young Fire ambassador is, but she humors him as long as he doesn't try too hard to pry into her personal information.

Her plans seem to have worked out so far. The nightmares haven't come back yet.
