Neiya remembers nothing before waking up in the lair of the Summer Squalls, alone except for a young harpy whose proper name she never learned. Despite later showing a nearly unconquerable spirit, whatever happened in her past must have done a very good job of doing so.

She spent her first months never leaving the lair, curled in her nest, and speaking to no one except the harpy, Aster, the lover of all things defenseless, and Imona, the clan's only mage. Imona found himself fascinated by the mysterious wildclaw and often found himself dragging the dragoness out to explore the Plateau.

Eventually, Neiya found herself opening up to the drake, telling him about her recurring nightmares of pitch dark and never-ending cold. Her heartbreaking pain prompted something completely out of character for Imona. He promised to keep her safe no matter what, giving her a pearl ring to wear as a sign of his promise.

Neiya was apparently comforted by this promise because three weeks later she disappeared from the the Squalls' lair and returned a week later with a ring for Imona that matched her own.

From that point, she grew bolder, reclaiming what seems to have been her original personality. She became more independent and sought out Imona's father, Miraval. Although Imona disliked the idea of Neiya returning to active combat until the true nature of her condition could be figured out. Neiya didn't agree, joining the Gale Force Militia during The Splintering, though she secretly appreciated her mate's concern.

Following The Splintering and the formation of the Militia, Neiya became one of the Militia's best fighters, taking time out to meet with her mate for his attempts to uncover Neiya's past. The best he's been able to say is that her soul seems to be only loosely connected to her body and that even that tenuous connection is tied to the balloon Neiya was found with and always carries.
