Alpira's story starts with her mother, Peripla, who was the daughter of two of this clan's leaders. Peripla travelled away to the Fishpine Reef and settled down with a tundra named Bartolo, eventually having a daughter with him. As her mother had made quite a splash in both clans, Alpira was raised bound up in her mother's legacy. She was always told she looked like her mother, and was named in a way that echoed her mother's name. After her mother died of an illness, she was forced to find a new identity, one which started with working out how her mother wanted to be buried.

After realising how different her home clan's customs were to her mother's, she started travelling around and gathering clan customs (specifically those surrounding death) in a book. She gives dragons advice on how their family members would want to pass on, depending on their birth clan's customs. She met Deka there, and taught him how to reconnect with his past, and they bonded over the pressure of a family legacy. They eventually returned to the clan together, feeling a lot more at home with their responsibilities to their family.
