Out of nowhere, a creature no bigger than a housecat drops onto your shoulder. At first you can't tell if it's some kind of avian familiar. It shifts around, easily maintaining its balance as you try to get a good look at it. Hello, it says, and you realize it's a Fae, wearing a bird mask. You settle down, and so does the Fae. It stares at you from behind the mask with wide, silver eyes. "Um," you say. Its headflaps move slightly. You wonder if there's something wrong with this dragon. You stare at it for another minute. It blinks slowly at you. You notice some flesh-colored webbing adhered to its wings. You try not to stare at the unseemly rash - or maybe it is an infection. You fail astronomically. My name is Shareth, the dragon says with a complicated head-fin gesture. "Oh," you say, and hope to the Plaguemother it isn't contagious. You lean back, hoping to put some distance between you and the veins on the Fae's wings, forgetting that the Fae's current perch is your shoulder. You can't have it, the dragon says. "What?" you say. My headress. You have been staring at it. It is mine. "Oh," you say. "I didn't want it to begin with." Really? he says. You realize that the Fae is male. You have been staring at it for the past five minutes. You raise an eyebrow, but the Fae doesn't seem phased. It is alright, you do not have to contain your jealousy. It is quite handsome, even I have to admit. "I don't want your headdress," you say. "I want you to get off my shoulder." Much headfluttering follows. The Fae looks confused. You would think that he didn't hear you, except that there's no way he couldn't have heard you. You try to shrug him off. His claws dig into your shoulder. You are incredulous. You wonder what is going on in this Fae's head. "Get off!" you finally say, unnerved. You are quite odd. Funny, but rude, the Fae says, and flaps off. Your mouth falls open as you try to comprehend what just happened.
You see some movement out of the corner of one eye, and another dragon makes its presence known. "Ah, I see you've met Shareth," the older Guardian says. "He's, ah... not all there. We try to humor him best we can. He doesn't get in the way too much. Try not to be too bothered." You still think something is off about the Fae, but you decide to take up the Guardian on her offer and forget this ever happened.
