Melita and her ward, Nifa, came to the Smokeveil Clan in its earliest days, fleeing from—something. She no longer remembers what. Nifa grew to adulthood and left the clan in search of adventure and romance, but Melita remained. The clan has become a place of refuge for her, a place of peace, where she can lose herself in beauty and a lifetime of craftsmanship. Her scented oils and perfumes were the very first of the clan’s artisanal trade items; they were immediately a sensation, and they have only become more renowned since then. Melita prefers to avoid attention and was greatly relieved when Alicorne became the clan’s trader, since now he deals with all outclan merchants, and she rarely has to talk to them herself. From time to time she branches out into other, related products, such as soaps and scented waxes, but her main focus is always on the creation of the scents themselves, both old, beloved favorites and new experiments. Every perfume is a whole world to her, a story that tells itself as it lingers. Facts – Despite being largely solitary, she was very close with Alvaro, who for a long time was the clan’s bee tender. Since he mysteriously disappeared one day, she has been very lonely. – Her perfumes are highly in demand among longnecks, thanks to her familiar’s connections. This is the one aspect of her trade that doesn’t go through Alicorne; instead, she deals with the longneck merchants directly. – Astonishingly, she's almost entirely self-taught—some of her preparation techniques she learned from other dragons, but the art of combining different scents is entirely her own. She's aided in this by her highly attuned sense of smell, which is extraordinary even for a tundra. – Recently Taksiz has been apprenticing as a candle maker with her. His sense of smell, while good, is in no way as sophisticated as hers, but she’s happy to have someone to take over this side aspect of the business. She also rather likes his quiet, gentle presence. Fictions — Familiar The longneck mender Bree’aka knows all about the healing of hearts as well as bodies. She was Melita’s only familiar for a long, long time, but when the clan’s main coli team finally captured a very rare and prized coral carpenter, Whisper presented it to Melita with great honor and respect.
