Biography

Solstice has a quiet, calming nature and tends to help other dragons with their troubles. He has a way with words and is basically a wise counselor and peacemaker.
Solstice and his mate, Flare, are like the lord and lady of this lair. They're just so fancy-looking. :)

Waiting List: Ayeva

CLAN POSITION: Strategist

Solstice was born in the Emberglow Hearth. He wasn't born into a noble family. His mother, Jehosaphat, was very poor, and Solstice had never known his father. But Solstice was very smart, and from a young age, he caught the attention of the leader of the Fire clan, Zamirathe. Zamirathe was an accomplished Fire skydancer female. And she watched the young male from a young age.
Eventually, Zamirathe offered Solstice the role of deputy in the clan. Jehosaphat, of course, accepted. But then she asked Zamirathe how this could be. Her hatchling was only three days old.
Zamirathe told her that she would take Solstice to The Great Furnace and train him there. One day, he would be the leader of the Fire clan.
And so, little Solstice was whisked away from home to the very center of the Fire clan. There he learned everything about the Fire clan. As Solstice grew older, he realized he loved to learn, and he plundered the library for books on the different kinds of dragons, what motivated them, what clan elements were weak to one another, and the different clans. So Solstice grew up very clever, and highly intelligent. And so, when Solstice became of age, he stepped into his new role of clan deputy.
He served Zamirathe well in all things, and the two grew very close. But then, disaster struck.
The Water clan invaded.
Zamirathe was killed.
She was killed early in battle, so Solstice led the battle against the Water clan. And he won. But Solstice refused to take the role of leadership. He was in grief, and he would not take the leadership under the circumstances of her death.
So instead, a young, headstrong male took the throne. His name was Flame. Flame was older than Solstice, but he was not nearly as clear minded. Put bluntly, he wasn't as smart as Solstice. Flame generally liked to charge into things without thinking them through. He became leader because he was popular, thought Solstice scathingly, then immediately felt bad.
He sighed.
As the weeks passed by, Flame kept right on barging into things, and Solstice kept right on pulling him out of them.
But one day, when Solstice was on his way back to The Great Furnace from visiting his mother, Solstice saw a bright orange imperial mushing an orange flower into a paste.
Instantly, Solstice hit the ground. For two reasons, one: he had never seen her before, and he knew EVERY dragon in the Fire clan, and two: what the heck was she doing?
He watched as the she-dragon rubbed the paste into her eyes. Then she trotted down the path towards The Great Furnace.
Solstice followed her stealthily.
He saw her reach a volcano and start setting up a home there. It looked like a permanent spot.
Solstice resolved to keep an eye and ear on her from now on.
He soon discovered that she called herself Solar, but he was sure that wasn't her real name. Solstice knew when he was being lied to.
She also wouldn't say where she was from. THAT gave Solstice the heebie jeebies.
So he watched, and waited. He became her friend. At least, an acquaintance, anyway.
Solstice noticed that Solar seemed to be buddying up to Flame. He wondered if she was a assassin. But he had gotten to know the pretty female. And he thought that sneaking in the shadows wasn't her style.
And she definitely wasn't a killer. Solstice knew that just from talking to her. She was sassy, stubborn as a mule, and highly fiery. But she wasn't a killer.
Solstice could see that Flame, after a week or two of knowing her, was falling in love with the peppery female.
Solstice wondered if Flame was gonna go through MORE heartbreak. (Solstice had gotten Flame to think straight again after a pretty female dumped him)
Solar, however, Solstice could see that she didn't feel the same for Flame.
So, to Solstice's mild surprise, Solar started trying to get closer to HIM. He decided to let her.
As Solstice got to know Solar, he realized that even though he did not trust her, he liked her quite a lot. She was fun to be around, and Solstice was glad they were friends. But Solstice did not forget what he had seen on the border.
And one day, when Solar went out for a walk, Solstice hesitated, watching her go. All of his instincts were screaming at him to follow her. So he flew after her on silent wings.
To his surprise, Solar seemed to be heading towards one of the few water holes in the Fire clan.
Confused, Solstice still followed, and then he saw her land down near one of the lakes.
Solstice quickly landed behind the nearest brush, and crept closer towards her to see what she would do.
Solstice watched in amazement as Solar slipped beneath the waters surface. No Fire dragon liked water, unless they were going to drink it. Water burned their scales. So what was Solar doing?
There was only one answer.
Solar was not a Fire dragon.
Solstice watched as the female imperial ducked her head under blissfully.
Solstice crept to the edge of the lake. He didn't know what made him do it, but he looked down at the bright orange shape beneath the surface.
She surfaced.
Then two extraordinarily different emotions clanged into Solstice's head.
The first was a realization.
She was...beautiful.
With her wet orange scales shining like burnished copper, and the drops cascading off her proudly lifted head. Her eyes shone bluer than enamel.
Then the second emotion came.
Her eyes were blue! Bright, deep blue!
Solar was a Water dragon.
Barely had he registered this, when Solar cannoned out of the water and tackled him.
Solstice quickly got over his shock and...whatever that other emotion was...and fought back. He was, however, careful not to hurt her. Why, he didn't know. She was his enemy after all. Her clan had killed Zamirathe, he realized with a jolt.
He renewed his attack, but still, he did not hurt her.
Quickly, he analyzed his opponent. She was smaller and faster than him. He was larger and stronger.
So, the trick was not to let her go when he got a hold of her. Then her speed would do her no good.
Swiftly, he managed it. Solar was quick and clever. But so was he.
He pinned her against the volcanic ground.
Then he noticed something else, Solar was crying, but she still had fight left in her. She wouldn't tell him anything for a long time.
But he refused point-blank to let her up until she told him everything.
And eventually, she did.
She told him her name.
She was Princess Flare of the Water clan.
She was a princess, he thought dizzily.
Finally, he let her up.
"I won't tell," he said softly, without looking her, and without knowing WHY the heck he wasn't telling Flame about this.
Suddenly, an image of Flare when he had first seen her as a Water dragon came to mind. Her blue eyes, her deep orange scales, and her head with the slight, proud lift. Ah! Solstice pushed the image out of his mind. What was wrong with him?
Eventually as the weeks went by, Solstice learned what was wrong with him.
Solstice had fallen in love with Flare.
Flare's a Water dragon! And a princess at that! he scolded himself, to no avail. He was in love with Flare, and there was nothing he could do about it.
And one day, when he couldn't stand it anymore, he told her how he felt. How he loved her.
Flare, as it turned out, had been wrestling with the same kind of arguments too. "He's a Fire dragon! You can't fall for him! He's the deputy!" But, just as he had, she could not fight it either.
So, they started dating. As it turned out, the flower Flare had been crushing into a paste made a gooey substance that turned her eyes orange. THAT was what she had been using.
Personally, for reasons Solstice couldn't fathom, he felt a very strong attraction to her deep blue eyes.
But then, one day, when Solstice had gone for a walk with Flare at his side. They had been having a conversation about Flare being of Water.
A rustling reached their ears. A dragon could be seen sprinting away.
It was Flame.
Solstice was sure that he had heard, but what could he do?
That night, Flame banished Flare.
Solstice, against his better judgement, protested.
Flame gave him a look of barely controlled fury.
Flame told him that he could stay in the Fire clan. Or he could be banished along with Flare.
Solstice was now torn. The dragon he loved? Or the clan that was his home?
Then he realized that Flame wanted him to feel this way. Flame was getting revenge.
All of it was clear to him now.
Flame was jealous. Jealous that Flare had chosen Solstice over him.
In the end, he knew the decision he would make.
He loved Flare.
And he was going with her.
Flare and Solstice left together. They went to the Nature clan, where they lived happily.
When they reached there, Solstice told Flare that he loved her, and promised right there that he would never leave her.
Flare smiled.
The Water princess and the Fire deputy lived happily ever after.

THE END. (if you wanna know Flare's story, go look on her page)
