Biography
Kurenai
Cat’s Hearth Owner |
|
Beginnings
When Kurenai first got to the dilapidated ruins that would house his clan, there were only a handful of dragons around, and even fewer felines. He was accepted immediately, the first coatl of the clan. He was given a Bamboo Phytocat to befriend, a good familiar that awakened some time ago, and as is custom, was allowed to traverse the clan grounds without a guide. He still came to spend nights by his side, every so often. Every familiar he had had been a feline of some breed or another. He just loved the way he could understand them- to an extent. Their purrs were easily picked up, and he figured out which frequencies meant what. Not to mention, they were perfect snuggling companions. Kurenai saw the clan grow from almost nothing into the mighty force it is today. He saw the second leader, Maiev, in her prime before she left to serve the Shadowbinder. He was even one of only a handful of dragons to have earned the high praises of the clan Benefactor, Takaska. They approved of his cat-related antics, a fact he appreciated. Kurenai and the cats saw it all. From nothing, to a thriving community with many different dragons of all breeds, ages, colors, and flights, and just as many unique personalities. He and the cats tended to stay to themselves, in a large home near the shores of the Sea of a Thousand Currents. It must have been built long before even the oldest dragons of the clan had been born, but Kurenai fixed it up himself, and made it a paradise for the floracats, and, inadvertently, the fire-flight dragons who found their way to the clan. It was the warmest area within clan boundaries, with a merry fire glowing in the fireplaces of each room. There were scratching posts, hidey-holes, tunnels connecting various rooms that only the floracats (or a few of the intrepid hatchlings) could access. It was dubbed "Cat's Hearth" after the cats began to outnumber the dragons. Many of the fire dragons were drawn to it because the building radiated heat, and recently, Kurenai enlisted the help of Kazkah, a fire dragon with incredible artistic skills. Kurenai, though born an ice dragon, felt kinship to the home of many of his kind, and had Kazkah paint the inside, and outside, of the mansion with various scenes from the Ashfall Wastes. There was, however, a room dedicated to a few murals of the Southern Icefield, for when Kurenai felt homesick. And so, Kurenai's home became a secondary home for the fire dragons, the coatls, and the felines. Every coatl was smitten with the cats once they realized it was easy to discern the differences between the various purrs. Kurenai couldn't be happier, bringing dragons and cats together, and being able to bond with a few dragons over shared interests. |
The New Cats
They were busy running the clan, though they stopped by time to time, to relax in the heat and- though Illidari would vehemently deny it if asked- play with the cats. Several times, typically when it got too cold in the dead of winter, the Benefactor would accompany them. They would promptly busy Themselves with the cats and dragons around, and Illidari would have to eventually remind Them to eat. Kurenai cherished owning an establishment that everyone could enjoy, and there was no small measure of pride involved in knowing that Illidari, Aaliyah, and the Benefactor had fallen asleep curled up with heaps of cats on and around them several times. He loved knowing that the most pressured and stressed dragons in the clan could find solace among his fires and his beloved cats. On the most recent venture the Benefactor made, They were astride Illidari, as usual, but a box was strapped to Aaliyah, which was... Unusual. "My Benefactor! Illidari, Aaliyah! It is a great pleasure to see you!" Kurenai called. "Kurenai! My beloved Coatl- how fare you and your new genes?" Takaska asked, as They slid off Illidari's neck. He had recently changed drastically- from Current, Ripple, and Underbelly, to Falcon, Peregrine, and Circuit. "I feel like a whole new dragon! More energy for playing with the cats! They took time to get used to it, but they smelled me and know I love them still!" he beamed, a Parda wandering up to brush against his legs before going on to sniff the Benefactor. "This is good news, indeed! And good news for you, as well, since I come bearing a gift!" They exclaimed, bending over just slightly to pat the Parda's head and scratch behind the ears. "Gift?" he asked, cocking his head to one side, and watching Illidari unstrap the box gently. Illidari held the straps attached to the box gently in his mouth as he walked it closer to Takaska and Kurenai. As he brought it, gently swaying, Kurenai heard a very familiar noise from within... "Kitten?!" he exclaimed, racing to the box Illidari was setting down as gently as he could. He cocked his head and listened closely. "MANY kittens?!" "Yes, and all for you!" Takaska laughed, opening the box and pulling the small creatures out. "They will be cats grown before you know it, and I wanted them to have a good home- I could not think of anywhere more perfect than the Cat's Hearth." "Benefactor! Thank you!" Kurenai folded his forepaws, wings, and tail around the Benefactor as They laughed. "Do not thank me only- Aaliyah and Illidari found them. A vault from the older ages was recently opened, and these cats were some of the first to be on the outside in who knows how many generations? I sent these two to collect them late last night," Takaska explained, as Aaliyah beamed and Illidari tried to divert the attention. "Thank you all! I will treat them so well, thank you!!" he exclaimed, finally plopping down and letting the kittens sniff him, purring all the while. After a few moments of chatter, Aaliyah, Illidari, and the Benefactor smiled as they walked back towards the underground entrance where the Benefactor's chambers were held. The two Guardians were in for a long rest, having been awake almost 24 hours to get the kittens for Kurenai and bring them to him right away. As they left, Kurenai collected the kittens on his back with his tail, and as he walked them towards the Hearth, he hummed quietly to them; "Oh they are all going to love you..." |
