Before the Brilliant Sky University granted degrees or offered courses, it simply called itself a haven for any dragons who had been battered or baffled by the Starwood Strand. With its large library and gifted mages, the clan stood in a unique position to teach others about strange, dangerous, and possibly even forbidden magic. This is why Rosaline's parents came to the clan: to learn about the magical disease that afflicted her mother. Wracked with pains from an abundance of wind magic, Elbaite and her Charge Clad took refuge in the BrilliantSky clan before it called itself a university. It was here, just as the clan was gaining their academic accreditation, that Rosaline was born. One of a clutch of three, she was the only child of her parents that did not wish to flee the nest immediately. Malnourished at birth, she gently caressed both life and illness as a child, staying at home and watching the birds fly overhead. She got better, for the most part, but never again wished to leave home. Instead, she noticed that some of those little birds flying overhead looked different from some of the other little birds. One even looked pink, like her fur, and so she climbed up the observatory stairs one morning to see the birds and found that they had faces and spoke to each other in a language all their own. It turned out that these birds were a flock of harpies who migrated to the Crystalspine reaches annually to escape the harsh winter winds of the Cloudsong. Immediately, Rosaline found the pinkest member of the flock, and despite the two being natural enemies, dragon and harpy, the two somehow became companions, as Rosaline claimed the Harpy "smelled friendly" and the harpy loved the cuddles Rosaline gave. Every winter, then, Rosaline and the harpy (named Anora by Rosaline) meet again and rejoice, as the flock takes shelter in the Arcane magic mountains. Soon after befriending Anora, Rosaline decided she wanted to study the beastclans of the Starwood Strand, so she enrolled in the school that had been her home for years, and along with her parents began to study. She was not a naturally talented student, but she works incredibly hard and devotes a lot of time into her studies. |

Rosaline is the closest thing the University will ever have to a princess. When Whippersnapper brings home flowers, Rosaline immediately crafts them into a flower crown for herself. Her parents pampered her as a hatchling and the entire clan caught on, giving her incessant gifts and letting her have the best dorm in the whole lair. By now, she is used to those gifts and while she doesn't act spoiled, the fact of the matter is that if suddenly others did not cater to her or give her preferential treatment, she'd be lost. She knows many think she's too spoiled but for her that is simply how she grew up and knows no other way to live. She greatly values beauty, and loves pampering herself. Long baths, leisurely walks, and lots of self care define her lifestyle. She extends this to others as well, always encouraging others to treat themselves well: drink that extra glass of water, go to bed earlier, eat healthier, relax on the weekends, don't spend too much consecutive time studying. This also means that she can be a little rigid: studying, exercising, and bathing are all nice, but laying around and watching junk food and reading movies to her are appalling things to do. Some people think she doesn't know how to have fun--she does, but it's just a different idea of fun from everyone else. Because she is always discouraging things like that, and because she really does have a bit of an inflated ego, she has few friends (really only Felix), and this is where her biggest insecurities lie. She thinks that by being a model dragon more people will like her, but she has yet to learn that good friends come from those who know her faults as well as her positives. |
