Biography

Uyuk
Hunter | Isolated | Needs constant tries to express his thoughts properly | Adamant

"I don't understand you"

Uyuk was a young Mirror when he got taken under Sun's wing as is common of the leaders' son everytime one of his kind joined the ranks of the clan. Even before being welcomed into the lair the young dragon was already accompanied by a raptorik -T'aan- who acted as his only family. Such closeness they had that the Mirror seemed only able to communicate through an odd mix of noises simulating his familiar's native tongue, thus making it difficult to scrape up any clue about his past, however as days went on it could be understood why this was such: through his growth, Uyuk had failed to develop a proper set of vocal chords, which, as he grew on, made it difficult to vocalize any language he tried, leaving only clusters of noises, chirps and growls to be heard from him. This problem was also complicated, as the intonation of his sounds barely connected to whatever he tried to communicate (growls entwined with angry sounding chirps whenever he tried to greet, or soft trills whenever he felt repulsion towards something) the reason of this is still unknown.

His "case" was throurougly discussed among the clan's medics, some attributing it to a curse and others dismissing it as just an unfortunate development that may or may not be fixed as the time went, either way, with T'aan as the only capable translator, Uyuk could find an understanding home that would try its way at "healing" his disorder.

Argen, an studious dragon in the matters of language, and also the main translator between certain species of familiars that inhabit the lair, became intensely interested in Uyuk's trouble to communicate and offered his help to the Mirror, Uyuk accepted and thus a series of experimentations became a main occurrence in his life: Argen would come to him every now and then with a solution he himself had created from scrapes and bits of information of spells and scrolls he saved in the lair's library, most of his spells were resultless or only had the shortest solution in such a small span of time to be considered even a passing success, but it did not stop him from trying anyway, even with Uyuk's dwindling encouragement, he tried and that was fine for him.

Due to his speech issues, Uyuk is more of an 'action over words' dragon, thanks to the help of his familiar and fellow clanmates his barrier of communication has been thinned as much as possible -with the use of an alternate sign language and the accostum of key mannerisms.

He is a dedicated hunter, always ready to take on the next trip outside the lair putting his best efforts into gathering plenty stock for the lair's reserves, he also enjoys the fresh air and solitude every once in a while as he knows not everyone in the lair is yet totally used to his erratic speech patterns often confused as a rash behavior and/or general rudeness. Uyuk is a sympathetic soul whenever someone truly tries to get beyond his impediments, he expresses his thoughts through the smallest details of touch and body language he is able to perform.

Keep Trying

"Now you should be able to" muttered the Skydancer, marking a last rune firmly at the Mirror's side reciting the last words on his spell out loud and taking a couple to steps back to observe his finished work. Uyuk shook his head, not feeling different aside from the slight pain in his throat and sides, the Skydancer turned away dissatisfied with the lack of response from the ritual giving a glance at the extended scroll on his claws, "Maybe..." he started with an embarrassed trembling in his voice, "I should study this one more, I've got a good feeling with it,...but to be honest I kind of rushed my work this time", Uyuk shoot him an annoyed glare and scoffed, replying with a mixed series of growls and trills the exact words of his rambling indistinguishable from each other, nothing resembling the common draconic language, "I know, I know", The Skydancer sighed, dismissing the garbled sounds from his friend, "Third one is the charm, don't you worry," he smiled, showing a determined glint in his eyes and striding away from the room with the scroll in hand; leaving a still grimacing Mirror alone with his thoughts.

Clawed feet made their way towards the dragon's slumping form over the nest's edge, the figure poked the wooden end of it's spear on the Mirror's head and started with a low sounding hum 'That makes it the 11th third time in the month', the raptorik chirped in a mocking way. The Mirror turned his gaze at the familiar, "Not worry, he can help, he can do" he replied in a wishful tune rolling into his back, 'sure thing' the raptorik nodded, sitting at his companion's side.
