"hiraeth" — (hɨraɪ̯θ), noun | Welsh | A sense of homesickness for a home you cannot return to or a place which never existed. Connotations of sadness, yearning, profound nostalgia, and wistfulness. An expression of an empty desire and grief over a past life or place.

Hiraeth wandered into Clan Gustborne as a hatchling with very little idea of where she was or where she was going. Lark took her under his wing and called her Gale, a name that suited her poorly. As she grew, her desire to wander became increasingly difficult to contain, until eventually she left. At her parting Lark changed her name to Hiraeth and made her promise to return. She made no such promise, but returns nonetheless.

Her journeys have taken her all over Sornieth, allowing her to meet a vast range of dragons. When she returns to the clan, she brings trinkets and stories, as well as news and maps. She acts as a spiritual guide, helping others find their calling, their path, or the answer to a tough question.
