✩ Army General and Lead Hunter ✩
Strong and stern, with a formidable height and bulk, Solon is not to be trifled with. He leads the warriors of his army with an unwavering iron fist. Still, as much as it may appear otherwise to those who only see him engaged in his duties, the golden Imperial is not all business. He has a soft spot for hatchlings, and those close to him know that when at ease, Solon is full of playful, quiet humor.
✩ ✩ ✩
One of the earliest members of the Clan, Solon joined Allante'aria decades ago as a wanderer, having left his previous clan for reasons still unspoken. Having one day stumbled upon the small, wandering band, he was invited warmly into their ranks by the leader, Ruriel. Solon was touched by the earnest, trusting nature of the Skydancer. He knew nothing about Solon, and yet without hesitation he had invited the lone dragon into his little family. It was sobering, almost. Too many years, Solon decided, had he fought for only himself. The prospect of living for someone else lit a vigor in the Imperial. He accepted Ruriel's offer with conviction.
The only dragon in the group with fighting experience, Solon was appointed Head Hunter by Ruriel. For many years, Solon acted as an army of one. He took it upon himself to hunt alone and keep watch over the group at night. Gradually, as their numbers grew, Solon was able to form a small troop of warriors and hunters. He trained them diligently—he wanted more than anything to protect Ruriel and his group. When Ruriel became devoted to the official establishment and advancement of the Clan, Solon was right beside him. Their titles changed—Ruriel became King and Solon the Army General. Allante'aria was born, with Solon at the right hand of the King.
✩ ✩ ✩
It was two years after the birth of the Clan that Prince Julien, son of King Ruriel and Queen Dahlia, was born. Solon took part in his Highness's protection and upbringing, especially so after Dahlia eventually journeyed to serve the Arcanist. One of his warriors, a young yet experienced mother named Meliae, became the Prince's official Guardian appointed by the King. It was through their cooperative rearing of the Prince that Solon and Meliae began their courtship. The eventual result of their brief affair was Echo and his sister, Nesta.
With Meliae devoted to the Prince, Solon raised his children nearly on his own. His dedication was feverish, resolute. Few in the Clan had seen such a paternal drive. When the children were old enough to choose their fates, Nesta, always the more adventurous of the two, flew away from her home to see the world. Echo, meanwhile, had always clung to his Imperial father's great sturdy legs, ever since infancy. He watched his sister take flight as he leaned steadily against Solon. He decided that if his father was a soldier, he would fight alongside him.
Solon showed some reluctancy to the idea of his son joining the ranks of his warriors. The frenzied fray of battle, the dangers and risks—he didn't want Echo near any of it. But the young Mirror was determined to stay by his father's side. Solon couldn't say no to such resolution.
✩ ✩ ✩
Soldierhood changed Echo—for better and worse. The "daddy's boy," as he was often teased, became reckless, independent, wild. He grew to even resent his father at times for such harsh treatment during training. Still, Solon loves Echo with every fibre of his being, and many know that this is why he treats the boy the hardest. Thorough training allows for a greater chance of survival on the battlefield.
✩ ✩ ✩
Now, Solon, the experienced Echo, and their talented partner Vin form the First Hunting Troupe, with Solon at the center. The three venture out on daily expeditions to bring food back for the Clan. Solon takes great pride in his Army. He has vowed to protect Allante'aria—and his son—to his very last breath.
✩ ✩ ✩
He had never truly contemplated Ruriel. From the beginning, Solon saw the slightly younger Skydancer as someone admirable—someone worth investing trust in. He’d been grateful to Ruriel for allowing him into the Clan, and had done his duty in protecting and serving him. There were seldom any thoughts beyond that. Of course, there’d been the stirrings inside of Solon. Of course, he’d occasionally feel flushed at Ruriel’s friendly touch. But he never allowed himself to think into this, or beyond it. Ruriel was his King. He was someone important to him, a friend, an ally. Solon wanted to remain at his side, even as just that.
✩ ✩ ✩
The night in Ruriel’s quarters changed everything. Upon receiving the sudden invitation, Solon hadn’t known what to think. He’d pondered the meaning of the King’s words for hours. Surely Ruriel was only wanting a bit of companionship. The two of them had spent entire nights before simply talking with one another, with the sun shining in through the chamber windows before either of them knew it. Never mind the fervent glances Ruriel had been shooting him as of late, the intensity of which making Solon’s insides churn. The Skydancer must only be seeking some friendship.
With this in mind, Solon had set out in secret from the chambers where he and his son slept. Cloaked by moonlight, he’d taken flight to the royal quarters, where he knew Ruriel must be waiting. He'd ignored the heat resting in his belly, ignored the knowing deep in his mind.
