Biography

Though she became a wildclaw with the help of a magical scroll, rather than being one by birth, Abalak transformed young, and ran with a few born wildclaws for a while before she came to the clan. As a result, she's as true a wildclaw as anyone can imagine, not a trace of guardian behavior left to her beside a certain fondness for water, and she is the core of the tiny wildclaw pack that's sprung in within the clan. She's also the undoubted head of it, and not only because she was born first; she will stomp anyone who dares to challenge her leadership into the dust. She doesn't care much about clan governance as a whole, preferring to leave that to Calabar, but given her leadership position she is a member of the inner circle anyway.

She doesn't seem very loyal to the clan as a whole, often taking Inkisi and ranging out into the wilds for weeks at a time, but what she's actually doing is patrolling the clan's territory. Like most Wind Flight dragons, she's an explorer, and she's more care-free than most of the Wind dragons who have settled in the clan, so she enjoys these expeditions more than she would enjoy being penned up with everyone else for weeks on end, and it gives her a way to serve outside of battle. Not that she minds battle; she's thoroughly bloodthirsty, one of the first into battle, and enjoys plunging into a fight. She also fights recreationally, but in the ceremonial, dance-like way of wildclaws, and since she has to teach that style to anyone she wants to fight with, and she's a harsh teacher, she doesn't get to do it very often. Despite her viciousness in battle and her refusal to brook any kind of challenge, she's really a fairly friendly and cheerful dragon, enjoying everything she sets herself to whole-heartedly and trying to engage those around her to share in her joy. Sadly, her brash approach and her fierce reputation make it hard for her to make friends, and she sometimes feels rather uncertain of her place within the clan.

She chose Inkisi as her mate before he was fully fledged, and has raised the mirror to live as a wildclaw even before he was changed; their mentor/student made the consummation of their relationship slightly awkward for others, but she's never thought of it that way. She just knows that he's the one she needs in her life--has known it since she first saw him--and she wants him unequivocally, even if she does sometimes need to stomp him down when he playfully tries to challenge. The clan's other guardians think there is a trace of her heritage left in her after all, and treat them as if Inkisi were her guardian charge. Because of this, she has a respectful relationship with them all, even if she does find their assumption faintly awkward. She gets along with most of the mirrors, especially Talca, who will join her and Inkisi on her hunts (though they sometimes quarrel over precedence), and Maracay, who has done his best to learn the wildclaw style of dance-fighting. There's no one in the clan she really dislikes, but as mentioned, she doesn't have many friends and sometimes feels isolated.
